Control Freak? Looking for input

I’m in the process of building a grow room that is about 8 x4". Of that, I’m only going to use it to grow 4 plants.

My last grows have been in a 2x4 tent with a Cloudline S6 running at 2 all the time.

For the new build, I was thinking of getting AC Infinity Controller 67 for the S6 as well as an Inkburd humidity controller. I currently have a temp controller my space heater is plugged into.

That’s 3 different controllers, is it as simple as making sure all of their minimums and maximums are set the same? I only ask cuz I feel that’s too simple, and the 3 diff controllers will somehow fight with each other.

Any input is appreciated!

My A/C Infinity with the standard controller is set to manage for both temperature and RH. I hear the new controller option is even better. IIRC @Hellraiser has one.

I purchased the S6 over the T6 due to the controller. I don’t remember now though why. Lol.

I do believe with the new controller you can set a minimum and maximum heat and humidity as triggers as well as a minimum or constant fan speed.

My issue is if the humidity still isn’t enough I want to use the inkbird to trigger the humidifier to the desired level. I’m just not sure the humidity will be enough even if the fan isn’t running.

The heater won’t be needed until winter, but that would be the third controller with just a minimum temp (no max)

I’m hoping all 3 play together well, if that makes sense.

Well it’s usually better to condition the air in the room where you are growing, rather than the actual grow space. If the space is generous, there doesn’t need to be much air exchange when plants are small. Plants in veg do fine at 40% RH and that is a good target for late flower to forestall bud rot or White Powdery Mildew.

I may be around 40-50. I’m in the Northeast so as it gets colder and the furnace goes on, my RH will drop. Maybe for now I will just go with the controller 67 and see how it goes.

Yeah I have the controller 67 - nice controller, has triggers for RH and temp but that’s just for fan control also has bluetooth and a nice app you can run on your phone to set even more parameters and some level of automation.

I don’t think this would interfere with the rainbird controller which would normally be used to turn on/off other equipment like a humidifier or heater or AC unit.

I never worry about low humidity, never been a problem for me (desert dweller with very low humidity), high humidity in mid/late flowering is what can easily ruin a grow (WPM and bud rot).

Sweet! I’ll get one ordered. I never worried about low humidity and then started reading about how it can be harmful, so then it got me thinking lol!

Yeah reading can be harmful LOL. I grew in low humidity (25-35 RH) for over 20 years and never had a problem, then started seeing articles about VPD and how I should be at a much higher humidity for “optimum growth”, so bought a few humidifiers and tried to keep RH up and seriously saw little to no difference in my grows, other than running a lot of RO water thru the humidifiers. Growing in coco now with mesh grow bags that adds a lot of humidity to the tents (tents stay over 50RH) so I don’t even run the humidifiers any more.

You hit the nail on the head! I started reading into VPD and that’s what got me thinking.

The grow room size is 8x4 but I’m only planning to grow 3-4 and use the rest of it for storage. So maybe a total of 4*4 grow space. Do you think the S6 will be enough with passive intake?

Yeah I think the S6 will be fine, though a S8 would probably be more suitable to exhaust a 8x4 space but without filling it with all with lights and plants, the S6 should handle a 4x4 grow space just fine.

I live in a very high humidity state, grow under the radar, and the VPD chart had me nervous.
I had 50-60 RH from start to finish. Just kept good air circulation in tent and had no problems with WPM or Rot

Makes a big difference.

What are your thoughts on ventilation, I am building a room and I am planning to put a passive intake at the bottom front of the room. I was thinking of just using an actual register cover, and then another offsetting one higher up in the wall on the inside of the room, do you think there would be any benefit to connecting them with actual ductwork?

@MidwestGuy @Woodrow

Yea luckily in my tents I have yet to run into an issue, this will be a new environment. I will have a 12" oscillating fan on 24/7 as well as the above mentioned S6 running. Hopefully that should work!

Yeah that’s a good range with RH, any higher is unnecessary and can lead to problems.

Should be OK, would not think you need to connect to ductwork but it’s one of those things where you just have to set it up and see what the temps look like to see if it’s working as good as it needs to or time to go back to the drawing board and try something else.

I run a lot of watts in my flowering tent so I exhaust that out a nearby window using a AC window exhaust kit, pulls all the CO2 laden air from the rest of the house (with 4 adults mostly home, 2 large dogs, 3 cats) thru my flowering tent and then out the window so I don’t have to recycle that warm air.

That’s awesome! The b vent for my water heater exhaust is right by the room, but don’t thinks it’s the best to tap into that.

I built my room in a tall crawl space. I robbed a vent to the closet which now cools my room. It’s 5X8x6. I have hlg 320w qb v2 rspec
2x4 tent. Exhaust is ducted out of one crawl space vent.

The thing nobody wants to talk about when it comes to “optimum growth” is how much of a difference having whatever factor at the perfect level actually makes. Is it like a 1% difference or a 10% or 50% improvement? I often feel like you could chase all these little improvements for a lifetime and it might ever add up to much but when you hit on the key ones it’s obvious

I have a vent right above the room going to my bathroom. I wonder if it would benefit any to tap into it.

@Deez

That is so true. The last few grows j got a pretty decent yield without looking at a chart.

Lmao… :joy:
I was gonna do the bathroom vent and the wife said
Oh hell no your not!! Get the one from the closet. I’m not standing on cold tile floor in the winter. @dmykins
