I second what @anon95385719 said. This is what I found on closer look with magnification on the underside of my leaves that looked like yours
They can be easily brought in by pets or on house plants.

what did you use for treatment? I found an organic spray at a local shop, multi purpose including wpm and spider mites, i recognized Neem oil in the ingredients. Just gave the first spray down of it this morning.
I tried neem oil first and had no luck. Ended up using Captain Jack’s dead bug and food grade DE every 4 days for 2 treatments. I’m mite free now…knock on wood.
Captain Jack’s is a great choice.
Ok so I got some microscopic views of the leaves, both top and bottom and actually not really seeing signs of any mites. Hopefully you guys can weigh in on this some more with the pictures now. I really appreciate the help. The under side of the leaves are generally unphased and look totally normal, the problem is on the tops. To recap, this whiteness does NOT rub off and feels rather dry. The black specs seen are just pieces of soil. I have the Apera pH20 which confirms i’m in normal range. Soil is neither dry nor overly wet. Here are detailed pics of the problem sites. And yes it is indeed spreading, new growth comes in green but takes on this whitening withing 24 hours… WTF IS IT???
@Countryboyjvd1971 @garrigan62 can one of you guys identify this guy’s problem or tag anyone else that might.
Does it scrape off with a fingernail? It looks like mold to me.
Unfortunately no
I’ve done gentle cloth rub, dry qtip, wet qtip, finger nail. Shits there to stay. It seems irreversible, my only hope is to identify it and STOP future growth from getting it.
I’m sorry, I really have no idea what it could be if not mold. Someone here will be able to figure it out.
The first pic of the 3 looks the most clear. Can you post it separately so we can zoom in?
Stop misting the leaves directly. Create a dome from anything that will work, put a couple vent holes in it, then pop it over your plant, but stop misting it for a few days, then see if the new growth keeps developing the issue.
I’m thinking: if the tap water has a high pH, it could cause leaf issues; try to keep any h20 that hits those leaves between about 6.2-7.0. If you use distilled water/rain water/ro water for misting, you don’t need to adjust the pH. Hard tap water also has lots of minerals & such, which could affect your leaves.
My tap water is chlorinated so I fill jugs and let them sit for two days before using . Most of the chlorine will evaporate . Just a thought !
I have the Apera pH20, both my tap water and filtered drinking water from the fridge tested fine, 6.3-7.0. Is it possible my well water is heavy in one specific mineral that does not throw off the pH? I’m not an experienced gardener but my intuition when examining the plant tells me it’s some type of mineral issue. Feels very dry too but i’m definitely not under watering.
I’m not sure i understand the dome idea. Could you share a picture? Something transparent i’m assuming, like a plastic? Is this a targeted fix at insects, like a physical barrier?
At this point with the plant being bigger, the white seems to develop faster and spread quicker. Now i’m starting to fear i’ll lose the plant. Although it MIGHT be just a visual problem and not harmful, i doubt it’ll flower healthy like this, it just doesn’t feel like healthy plant
The dome will keep your seedling’s humidity up w/o you needing to mist the leaves.
Do you think this may be an effect of spraying the leaves directly? I think i’ve read about “burning” and i know even outdoor gardens can suffer from having wet leaves while in direct sunlight
Yes, I do. Mostly b/c I think I just had the same issue, which stopped when I stopped misting the plants.
Thanks man, this could very likely be the cause since I was misting both for humidity at first and then trying to correct the problem via apple cider vinegar, baking soda, insecticide etc… All were in the form of spray.
Stop misting & let new nodes grow out. If the issue appears on leaves that never have never gotten a single drop of water misted onto them, then you’ll know it’s a systemic issue, rather than a surface leaf issue.
Also, how far away are your lights?
