Cloning without a tent or lights

Hi all. This will be my first attempt at cloning. Most, if not all, of the information/resources I’ve found regarding cloning involve indoor tents and grow lights. I’ve got a tray with a 7” dome coming. A tent or lights just isn’t an option. Maybe a small tabletop light if it’s absolutely necessary. But my question is are artificial lights necessary? Is the humidity dome sufficient to get roots? I can bring the tray outside during the day if need be. Any advice or links to resources are appreciated. Thanks.

When I was in to cloning a while back I would use grow floros from the hardware store. and a humidity dome. They work just fine to get your clones ready to go outside, but it would be difficult to grow long term with them.

When cloning, small amounts of light is necessary, as most of the energy is going to growing more roots.
I haven’t tried it, but many people have had a lot of success in a glass of water near a window.
Outside may not be the best, especially if it’s hot where you are. (It’s hot here in MI!)

I was just going to state this. I wasn’t truly trying to get clones. As I was trimming one of my girls, I thought this would be a perfect clone. Cut off 2 nodes , trimmed on a 45° and dropped em in some water for a week and they rooted like crazy. They are both doing well and have since transplanted in soil and they have gone vertical.

If I am trying to clone with success, I use my supersprouter, cloning gel/powder and plant right into the soil in a solo.

I’ve had success in a glass of water with aloe, jade and a few other things. I’m open to trying a few methods.

Me too.
Learned “Michelob Bottle” water cloning in 1982.
Still works, sometimes. No Michelob bottles found, lately (the old design).
Winter 2022 Tent in soil cloning. accomplished.
Summer 2023 Outdoor, soil cloning. Fantastic.

These work great. 40 slot tray comes out. Mat if needed. Lights already added. Pretty cheap. Can be put anywhere.

That looks like a decent, functional little set-up. Thanks.

Works well in winter on heating mat.

A small desk lamp and a cup of water will work Growmie :love_you_gesture:

Clones will root in a closet with plain light bulb but they soon need adequate light.

Clones have been done outside before grow lights were even made. A greenhouse is an excellent option in spring.
