Hi everyone. I’ve been enjoying the site for quite a while now and was encouraged to start a grow journal, so here we go.
I soaked my seeds first and then, began the paper towel method. Once they were ready, I put them in degradable cups with organic garden soil. The first one sprouted on 5/29 and the others weren’t far behind. I sprayed them with distilled water until they were little taller and then, mostly kept the cups moist and that worked well until I putthe cups into bigger pots.
I kept the plants inside until July, mostly because of legal issues, but also because we had some cooler nights. I took them out during the day and back in at night. Once I transplanted to 5 gallon fiber bags. I left them outside full time.
I’m growing on my deck because there’s a large deer population in this area and I’ve lost a lot of my vegetable garden to their culinary whims.
So far, I’ve had trouble with spider mites and leaf hoppers and treated the mites with insecticidal soap, which caused some leaf burn, but overall, they look good.
Looking forward to this journey and thanks to everyone for your advice and support.
We had a chance of rain earlier, but I didn’t think much of it until the downpour began. Tried to pull the pots under the waves of the house but they still got drenched and it’s horribly muggy out there now.
I’ve put up what I hope will shield the plants from at least some of the rain. We’ll see how it works.
I attached a plastic shower curtain to the lattice on my deck with some S hooks. Quick and easy to put up and take down.
welcome fellow Virginian isn’t it a wonderful thing? And what an awesome place with great people willing to help see you through to harvest!! Best wishes, following along also
The weather has been hot and humid which means–summertime in Virginia. Was looking through my paper journal and determined that my plants have grown between 12" and 14" in 15 days. I was wondering if they should have grown more during that time, but I had to remind myself that, I transplanted them into larger bags and started moving them outside full time. Hoping for a real growth spurt soon.
@PurpNGold74 - It’s a shock to us too! LOL! I figured we’d be 53rd out of 50! Go Blue! LOL!
@AEAgain - are you growing photos or autos? Indica or Sativa? And if a hybrid which is the dominant strain? I’m sure you know all those factors will determine growth rate and size.
I’ve read extreme temps, like we’re having, can slow growth.
Once budding starts some strains will double in height, so don’t despair friend!
*Unless tears are good for weed, then I’ll join you for a good cry!
They’re sativas. Purple haze. I’m also taking into account that this is my 1st grow and how long I delayed taking them outside to soak up the sun and the heat they love.
Watered the girls this morning, not too heavily because nutes are on schedule for Friday. I had to go out, and while I was gone, we had a rainstorm. Nothing too heavy so I’m not worried, but started hearing thunder so I activated “the umbrella” and it seems to be working. No heavy rain but it’s helping to shield more rain after the morning watering.
I’ve got some similar bract-ing(?) going on but not as tight.
Did you say if these were photo or Auto above and I missed it?
As long as the plant stays healthy these are all future bud sites!! Yum!
As far as the funky leaves, I’ve had that too. Usually within a day or two they straighten out and fly right.
Honestly I think it’s because the plant is in the prime of its life and is just growing so vigorously it just can’t help itself.
And think about that heat we’re getting this week - that can’t be good on the baby leaves.
I think your grow is looking good man!
