CBD Plant Harvest

I’ve got this 30:1 CBD plant I’m growing & was wondering how the trichome color would apply. Since the whole idea of the plant is couch lock, what ratio of amber trichomes is the time to chop it ?

Harvesting when most trichomes are cloudy (rather than amber) is a common practice for high-CBD yields.

Unfortunately amber trichomes are necessary to achieve a couch lock buzz, so keep this balance in mind when you harvest. If the ratio is 30:1, then you are not going to get much couch lock effect with the strain, as THC in minimal.

THX.

Was just reading that CBD trichomes turn purple ? Or maybe it was just that particular strain…I think it was Pink Kush(?)

I guess you can’t go wrong with cloudy, but with all the knowledge about clear/cloudy/amber trichomes & how they affect the high you get from regular weed, you’re not supposed to get “high” from CBD, so I was just wondering how early/late harvesting would affect the “mellow” you’d get from it…if that makes any sense.

Makes perfect sense :+1: Degration of THC is the amber in a non CBD plant, and way I understand, it’s (THC) is going to CBDN, which what we grow with a CBD plant and heat to CBD/Medicine kinda like heat needs to get THCA to make it THC that gets ya high. I maybe off and hope I am corrected if wrong.

Welp, I initially contacted Seedsman, who I got the seeds from & they emailed me an attachment which was a Jorge Cervantes Grow Manual…twice. I’m still waiting for clarification after I emailed back a third time, telling them there was nothing in Jorge’s manual concern a CBD ripening schedule.

It shouldn’t matter too much with a CBD plant because there is no THC. Generally the longer you leave the THC flowers on the plant, the more they couch lock and act like a sedative. One species of Cannabis is more for a buzz and the other species is for couch locking. Breeders try to balance them so you get the best of both worlds. CBD doesn’t normally couch lock though.

If you harvest towards the later end of the flowering period it will be fine and better than harvesting too early for CBD plants. If you harvest too early the CBD level won’t be as high and it won’t do as much for pain relief. However, it’s 30:1 so it will still be high even if harvested a week too early.

Finally, a non-canned response:

Hello mickey_g

Thank you for reaching back out. For trichomes, once they are showing majority Amber this is a good window of harvest. Typically, a higher percentage of amber-colored trichomes indicates higher CBD content.

Well that cleared that up, thank you Now I know, which does make sense, if you let a TCH plant go to amber more than cloudy it turns more to CBN type of effect. :+1: Thank you for the effort put forth…

What I’m still wondering is if you harvest before they turn cloudy, will you get a speedball head ? I mean, the idea of growing CBD is to chill, but if clear trichs mean a speedy head…

I would assume so just like any other smoke to early you be wired and get the speedy high, (but we all know what assuming makes)
