Can anyone offer a newcomer some help?

Hi everyone, I’m a complete newbie to all this and would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out. I have a 80 x 80 x 160 cm tent that I’ve purchased in order to start a grow. I have seeds on there way but I’m still to get lights etc, I was thinking vipraspect 600 led) but not sure. Also how many plants can I fit in that space with that light?

How big is that in feet?

Just under 3ft x 3ft x 6ft

@Claypole4

So that is 9 sq/ ft. And you’ll want a minimum of 35 true Watts per sq foot. So that would be 315 true Watts as a goal.

I have that light and believe it’s a 270 ish true watt pull- so you may be just a bit under with that light.

So I should go for a bigger light?, there so many different sizes not to mention brands. I’ve seen a couple of good deals on Mars hydro & Vipraspect but I don’t want to pay for one that won’t do the job properly.

@Claypole4 I have the viparspectra 300W reflector series (146 True watt I think). I think in reality it depends on how much you want to grow. I mean I have a 2x2x4 tent and Im alright growing in that but ive heard I have my plants packed in there and I could if properly SROG I could pull the same harvest off 1 plant. Don’t know how true that is cause im only on 3rd grow and I also try things other people say they wouldn’t. Here is a photo so you can see what im talking about.

You could go with one of these.

Or two of these.

This is what I have in my 3x3x6

Only 2 full grown natural plants. Mybe 4 if you LST, or SCROG. LOOK them up

It is better to grow 2 plants that can spread out instead of cramming 4 plants in a small space. You always want to make sure you have good air circulation. This helps deter pests and disease.

I’ve been researching alot lately so I’ve read about sea of green & low stress training, both are things that I would like to try (maybe not on the first run) I hear what you’re saying about not jamming in too many, I’ve read that you can get a similar yield from 2 or 4 plants depending on the space they have. I have alot more research to do as I am looking to get my lights in a week or two and I cant wait to start my first run. I’m just glad that I joined this forum today because I could read all the books and research online and not know what would work best for my needs.

I squeeze 2 plants in 2x2x5 but is a little crowded.
I have the meizhi 450w(192w true) payd under 100$ and I recommend 2 of them

This is the one I chose. I just got my tent (4ft by 4ft by 6.6) and light in today…It’s about to get REAL!

That light will get you started, but its rated at 400 true watts. That will only give you 25watts per square foot in your 16sqf tent. IMO you will need at least another 200 watts, with another 400watts being better once your plants start to flower. Two of those lights would be ideal. One of those lights would have been perfect for a 3x3 tent.

Thanks @Rugar89.
The tent came with this “no name” light, will this work or would it be best to supplement with a better quality light? Screenshot_20170805-005000|281x500

So you have this light AND the one you linked to above? If so, yes, you could probably get by with those two. The minimum you want would be 35watt psf. Those two together would give you 38watts psf. 50watts psf would give you maximum yield, but you should be able to grow with 38watts psf.

@Rugar89 I have both lights. I’m hoping to make that work for now. I’ll get in some OT at work soon and build my funds back up for a better one …

i have this one and the plants love it (might be a bit much for your tent, but the brand seems good)

Like I said, those two will get you going, and you could probably get away with them for the whole grow. But the more watts psf, the bigger the plants, the bigger the buds, so the bigger the yield. If you could manage to save up for another one of those Higrow lights like you linked to above, you would be set! But you wouldn’t really need it until the flowering stage. So you have time.
