Hello I thought that I wouldn’t need any help, but here I’m writing, not just reading, hehe.
I’m on my first grow attempt, after 10 year and everything looked perfectly fine, untill today, when I saw some discoloration on one of leaf and now I’m afraid that my flowers are in danger from mite bugs. It doesn’t look exactly the same, but I don’t know what else can it be.
I have 4x4 grow tent, 5 galon pots, 465w lumatek compact(not pro), currently running at 75%, 70 cm away from the plants. Medium is soil, plagron royal, so I’m not feeding my plants with anything else except plagron ph-, and cal-mag, since they are 21days from sprouting. Ventilation is good, temp. is 25-27°C, Rh 50-55 with lights on, and 21°C, Rh 60, with light off.
3 days ago did some LST, and they look healthy and beautiful in general, but that discoloration really bothers me.
Here are some pictures from today. They are all AFs. On the first picture you can clearly see what may problem is. Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks!
That looks to me like genetic variegation. It may or may not disappear but should not be a problem.
Thank you, I’m really happy to hear this.
I agree with @Myfriendis410
Looks like typically variegation.
Sometimes it can be bright yellow and all over and look really cool.
It doesn’t hurt anything really and many plants can display variegation.
Welcome btw and only help i see you need is just like all of us in the beginning you just need to relax and breath
you’re doing a fine job so far
Welcome to the forum! Good advice above.
Thanks to everyone I appreciate your welcome. I was hoping to hear advices, like just relex, but this is first grow after many years and also didn’t smoke nothing for a while and I just don’t want to ruin those first three plants. The second grow, will be much easier-mentally.
Today I put 10 lady bugs in the tent as a preventive. I saw some little flies flying around and don’t wanna risk it. After all its bug season here and house is covered with lady bugs. They can’t do any harm so let’s see.
Just relax… youre doing everything correct. By your 2nd grow youll feel a whole lot more comfortable and wont worry. I check on these girls twice a day…
Thanks man. I’m relaxed . Maybe I’m doing everything correct with plants, but definitely not with lady bugs. After few hours I didn’t find any . Well, one is glued on fly trap, but don’t know where others are. Maybe they went out through ventilation
Have some issues with ladies again.
I’m feeding just with water, adding ph- and cal mag pro.
Can anyone tell me what this is?
That looks like a slight calcium deficiency there at the new spot. Nothing major and does not look like bugs to me. The new spot.
I agree the first spot in the thread is just variegation or some hiccup in the pigment, nothing to be fixed or worried about.
Since you are adding cal mag, my first inclination is to test my water ph at the source. Make sure it’s not slightly out of range too high? If it’s too high the calcium becomes insoluble before the plant can take it up. Only microbes and time release it again.
Have you tested the tap? If your tap water is in range, or you are all ready on it with adjusting PH, you may need more calcium. Some girls just need a bit more than the rest of the grow. Adding a half dose more calmag for that one plant may be all you need to do.
If you find it’s something that comes up in your grows repeatedly I might add some calcium to my substrate before the grow. Such as half a cup of crushed coral or oyster shells or clam shells. If you live by a beach just fill a bucket up w the clam shells the seagulls break on the beach. Or save the shells of a dozen eggs and beat them up a bit first before mixing them in before the next grow. It’s easier than chasing the cal mag bottle each grow. Then just add some epsoms salts for the mag when you water.
Iron deficiencies sometimes look that way too, but are way less common. It usually the calcium lacking. Iron in my opinion, is more about PH lock out VS true deficiency like calcium. Iron also hits older plants as the soil depleted, not youngins like that.
What ever you decide to do, remember the plant takes a few days to respond. It won’t change in one day. Even if it’s just the ph adjustment and no supplementals.
Thank you for long and helpful answer.
Yes, I was also firstly think that calcium or magnesium is off, but since I’m already adding this, next thing on my mind would be pH blocking cal mag. My tap water is way to alkaline, pH is nearly 8,5. When I add plagron ph- and cal.mag I should be in safe zone. I don’t have any accurate instrument for measuring, just those drops, where sample is colored in different colours. I know it’s not great, but I thought I would be able successfully grow without really accurate measurements.
I have also a lot of rain water. Over 1000 litres, and also some spring water near the house and maybe I will try with that, instead.
I know it’s nothing serious yet, but those things can go bad really fast.
And I’m really anxious when I see little flies in grow space. Not many, but I always see one or two little fuckers. I think they are just fruit flies, but anyway.
