they are about ready to harvest I think I am a newbie this is my second year with random seeds they are out side and about 15 ft. high please I need help hoping its not to late Thank you Karen

Get a jewelers loupe or magnifier to check trichomes, you want 10% amber then you could harvest. 
but they are dying and drying out you can pick the dried buds right off. Just some of the buds ready to harvest I sure thought something for sure is wrong with them as the don’t seem right Thank you for your response!

Can you post picture of whole plant and picture of the dying bud you picked off?
You have bud rot nothing you can do at this point but prune off what you see . Google bud rot for more info . I am also experiencing to get same thing . Harvest before it’s a total loss

Any that have this look usually have the start of botrytis aka bud rot. I usually carefully cut those buds off. It’s the bane of fat juicy buds. They keep too much humidity for their own good.
I would harvest this plant now if it is in more than 1-2 buds. It will spread for sure otherwise. It’s the Achilles heel of outdoor growing.
Defoliating all the sun leaves helps a lot to reduce the likelihood. In future grows I like to top bud in early august as they start to flower. The multihead smaller buds seem to always keep the bud rot off better than the tall thick buds. Mold resistant strains aside.

Unfortunately I have found it spreads faster than it can be culled out. Tried many a times. Not the whole crop, just individual plants. Once it gets thru the plant defenses it’s all over.
It’s so sad to have to cut down not quite ripe all the way buds. I usually just make olive oil and ETOH extracts since it’s not the best smoke. You got some nice trichomes in the tops. You may be surprised how many tops are nice smoke. If you wait more will go down. It’s the dew at night and not the rains even that get you.
I keep a journal to keep track of winners and looser for bud rot in the long game outdoors.

I changed my style a lot over the years. I wait till closer to the solstice to put out my plants if I want more flavors so they do t grow as big and into each other. Like outdoor sea of green if that existed.
Or if you plan an early start expect them to be big. You need to space them like fruit trees with more space. And open up the bottoms in the 2-3 foot lowers.
