Hey growmies! I’m going to be doing a bud wash on my Afghan Auto, and I’m wondering: does the type of water you use REALLY matter? I’ve been doing a lot of reading, and opinions are pretty split. Some people say to use RO/filtered water; some say you can just use regular tap water. Does it actually make a difference? And if so, what types of water do y’all prefer to use when doing a bud wash?
This is the only info ive ever saved on bud washing. Never heard of people worrying about the water type but you can ask @Myfriendis410 and see what his thoughts are
Normally I would tell you distilled should be mixed with peroxide but that is really only if you are going to keep the dilute mixture around. The solids in tapwater will react with the peroxide and dissipate it fairly quickly. Not really an issue with a bud wash IMO.
That’s super helpful; thanks so much! I’ve seen Jorge Cervantes’ video before, and it’s good to know that his process is sound. I’m thinking that’ll be the method I’ll go with.
I would fill a Homer with tap and peroxide then fill another one with plain water. Immerse flower in the peroxide solution and put a lid on to keep it all submerged then 5 to 10 minutes later transfer to the other bucket.
You’ll be amazed at how good the plant material smells when it comes out of the wash.
I can’t wait!!! Thanks so much for all the advice…it’s super helpful!
How long should it stay in the second bucket?
2 minutes? I also use the shower setting on my hose and rinse when they come out. Then hung on a clothesline to drip dry before going on the rack.
Frankly you don’t need to rinse plant at all as the peroxide will dissipate within minutes into O and H20.
Here’s after one plant was washed:
I cannot figure out what a ‘Homer’ is ?
Help please .
A Home Depot bucket (I’m pretty sure, at least!)
I’m going to try doing a bud wash when I harvest my Blue Dream photo. Unfortunately I ended up with caterpillars when I moved my plant from green house to back planter to full sun to try something new. Have another 4weeks give her take till harvest and hopefully I can keep an handle on everything.
When It comes time to harvest, I’ll be giving this a try. Should I be doing peroxide and water or I’ve also seen lemon juice and baking soda. This will be my first time doing so and it’s kinda scaring me trying something new and don’t wanna screw up all my hard work. I’m learning more and more with each grow I do. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
stick with 3% Hydogen Peroxide and water ( food grade)
I picked up some 3% hydogen Peroxide in a brown bottle like you use for cuts. Would that work or is that the wrong type? I’ve done some research and it seems like people use that one.
Getting ready for my first harvest in a few weeks and just fell down this rabbit hole in my research. I have an indoor grown and have been dealing with fungus gnats the whole time. Seems like a wash could only help.
I am planning on drying in a tent with the AC Infinity mesh drying rack and don’t really have a hanging rack like in the video. Will this be an issue?
Also, have you ever just done the double bucket dip with no shower rinse? I want to use my RO water but don’t have a way to hook that up to gentler flow. Would a fine mister work for the rinse? I bought one for foliar before I decided not to risk that in the first grow.
Also do you use the fans as directed in the video? I’ve read in other topics on here that have are bad after harvest but get the reasoning of the video to only quick dry the wash water.
Thanks in advance!
I dry on a net rack with no problem.
No need to rinse as peroxide dissipates immediately.
Could I apply the peroxide as kind of a foliar spray on the outside post trim instead of dunk and soak? It’s an indoor grow so not overly worried about the debris as much as bug poop.
Personally I would use a 5 gallon bucket; fill to near full, add a cup of 3% peroxide and immerse as many branches as you can. Swirl around and remove to drip dry. (I string a piece of paracord and hang branches over my utility room floor to drain) Once dry enough they go into the rack.
Here’s a bucket after rinsing one plant:
Is this something i should have to do with my indoor grow? I will tag you in the grow journal!
If you’ve been dealing with small flies/insects in your area then i would. You’d be suprised how many tiny dead flies get stuck in buds and die and just go unnoticed until harvest time. Never mind the larvae and shit etc. Plus you’ve got hair and dandruff coming off yourself too.
Ive heard of people using Dr.Zymes eliminator for bud washing
