The plant grew pretty well until about 10 days ago, just after I started to see signs of sex.
I started to notice dark spots on the older large fan leaves
I checked all of my pH and run off and nothing seemed to be off from the normal readings.
After a few more days I noticed it was starting to appear on newer leaves as well.
At that I noticed the leaves first affected were much worse and some started to yellow as well.
My research keeps leading to cal/mag/iron deficiency, but I use cal mag with iron every time I water, so I don’t know what else to do.
I do not notice any signs of pests, I checked all over with a 40x magnifier.
That is not Cal-mag deficiency. That looks like small rust spots. It also does not look like Iron deficiency either. I am no expert to what is going as I never have deficiencies ever.
I would say it could be one of a few things it maybe either a iron or a potassium or phosphorus def if you want something that will hit all three go and get five bananas and a cucumber peel the bananas and the cucumber then cut up the skins into smaller pieces put those in a stocking or mesh bag get a 20ltr bucket fill with ph water add the mesh bag of peels then add two tablespoons of molasses desolved in warm water add air pump and bubble it for 24 hours and before u water add ten mls of fish shit aswell stir and now water molasses has iron and other minerals that ur plant needs the peels are high in potassium and phosphorus and calcium with abit of nitrogen that should help and it will give ur flowers a boost
I’m not familiar at all with the soil you are using, but what I do see is that 6.0 ph in and 6.0 pH out in soil, in my opinion is a touch low. I’ve been tearing The Forum apart trying to find the pH charts and which nutrients are deficient or available at specific pH levels and have had no luck finding it. I know somebody here has one and maybe they can post it. I run my water at 6.7 in soil. To me the plant looks hungry or possibly the lighting needs to be turned down a touch. A soil on the borderline of pH lockout will wind up with an overabundance of certain nutrients and will be lacking in other nutrients and we have to find a balance for the plants to be able to use everything they need.
So if I had what you have going on, what I would do is for my next several watering use 7.0 pH water, and I would water to considerable run off probably at least two-thirds right off what I fed.
If you are only growing one plant underneath that hlg light I would also dim it down a little bit or move it further away from the plants. I’ve got 480 W of Samsung boards and a meanwell driver and I never crank It On full power in my 4 by 4 tent because I always get Cal Mag issues when I run it at full blast. I have a dimmer on mine and just turn it down enough so it’s noticeable to the eye that has dimmed a touch. I would not increase any nutrients or cal-mag at this time and just see what difference the changes I do make.
If my ran off water started to go above 6.7, I would then drop my pH back down to 65 on the intake water. Forget to mention that some peat based soils can go ascetic when the Peat starts breaking down
I’m not 100% sure how to dim my light, I think it is a tad intense and is likely what has devastated my other plant I have going (first grow 3 week older)
It has a meanwell driver and a small rubber piece I can lift but idk what I’m doing and don’t want to damage anything.
I have room to back the light away, but currently the temps at the top of canopy are only 80f.
I will try to water at 7.0 with heavy run off for a few waterings, and see if I can figure out the light dimming.
@Randoms110 If you have a Meanwell driver just remove thet rubber grommet thing. You use a Phillips screw driver. Just be gentle and turn it. It will dim counter clockwise and turn it up clockwise. At least that is how my Meanwell driver is.
Some of the meanwell drivers come with a external pot with a dial. The one you have is a internal pot and you’ll need a little Tech driver (Screw driver) to adjust wattage up or down to whatever you need. @MrPeat As you covered
Time released nutrients correct? I’m noticing a calcium, most likely Magnesium with phosphorus. My assumption is those elements are not getting released in an amount needed at this stage of flowering. More P and K needed. I would start with 5ml of calmag and 1.0 grams of epson salt. I’ve had some that I had to increase the dosage of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus/potassium compared to some that were fine with my regular mixture
It is a time release mix, I unfortunately did not mix into the medium before I popped the seed in.
Which is why I did more of a top dress, I have been using a cal/mag at a full dose for some time, I have tried adjusting the PH up for now and see if she starts to recover, hopefully the “Bloom” nutes just are a bit behind the plants needs.
I do have some nutrients I can add if this doesn’t help to supplement more P and K.
I will continue to update on here as things change, I appreciate all the input.
I’m in @OGIncognito camp above. I see Ca for sure and probable Phos tox. But what is the cause. Only a guess, pH has moved acidic.
Phos and Mg are married so they usually come together, I know innuendo. Careful of those bloom nutes that look like 7-54-36…too much Phos. Thats late bloom finisher/stress levels.
Just an update for anyone interested, I adjusted the PH up to 7 to start with and monitored the runoff and TDS with each watering.
I noticed a slight drop in pH in my runoff, I began feeding some supplemental “bloom” Nutes from TPS Nutrients, as well as their “Signal” which is a flower terpene support.
After about a 3 days she stopped getting worse, and appears to be developing just fine now, she never recoved her nice green color and the dead leaf spots I assume won’t ever recover.
I have pulled off anything that was already falling off and yellow or fully browned.
It’s also worth noting I do believe this was a combination of my time release nutes being too weak of a dose as well as my medium drifting slightly acidic, and my light may have been too intense ( think I see burn/ bleaching spots).
So I moved the light up a bit.
She’s a pretty girl… I’m new to this, but from what I understand, you’re right. Those 'spots ’ won’t recover and you were right to remove the affected leaves. They weren’t doing thier job anymore (photosynthesis). I had similar issues with a stubborn Gorilla Glue and when I harvested her (today ironically) she had virtually no leaves left. But I should still have a decent yield.
