I’ve got em mounted to the heat sink for now I had planned to grab some little hurricane fans along with some cloning gel end of this week anyway. Thank you for the peace of mind dbrn32. I’m kinda looking forward to cooler weather so I can manage the tent temp a little better.
Just a little clone experiment. I had to take some branches off the tall plant because 2 bottom branches had grown so long sideways looking for light they couldn’t support their own weight.
I did a horrible job taking the clones, I didn’t use a razor blade, didn’t sanitize, just clipped them at a rough 45 and threw them in some rock wool cubes soaked in 5ml per liter clone x nutrient solution pHed to 5.8. they are under a 6500k 12 watt LED 24 hrs light cycle. The left over solution I used to soak in the rock wool cubes I threw into a sprayer which I’ll use to mist the cubes and the dome once per day.
Well tomorrow may be the big day. I’ve received sage advice that a minimum of 8 weeks vegging would be best but with the left 2 at 8 weeks and the right 2 at 7 and my tent with barely enough verticle space to accommodate a 100% stretch, I’m thinking I may send them into flower tomorrow after work and watch the magic happen.
Trimmed and changed the light schedule. Messed up and they went without light until noon but no biggy. They’ll get 6 hours of light today and then be on a 12 hr light schedule from now on. They got a quarter dose general hydro grow and full 5 mil per gallon of the cal mag and with the next water I’m gonna do one more quarter dose grow and start up with a quarter dose bloom and then switch to straight bloom on the next watering after that. I did an awful job with the clones but screw it. If one lives then I’ll continue if not I’ll wait for full legalization so I’m not so paranoid.
Front right side has some Yellow dying leaves at the base of the plant so I decided to follow the transition schedule for general hydro. Fed them with 5 ml cal mag, 2 ml grow and 2 mil bloom per gallon pHed to 6.5. Also, I seem to have made a strategic booboo. The way the lights are set up I can’t raise them anymore because of the 2 thin cables that extend to the eye hooks, so I have just started the stretch with my tallest plant only 20 inches from my lights and I can’t raise them anymore…
I think my solution will be to double the cables over themselves so they are half the length. I’m not positive I’ll be able to do it but I can’t go check at the moment because it’s dark time but tomorrow is a new day.
@Covertgrower I believe you were spot on with that variegated leaf plant. I’m going to carry her through to flower but I think she is disqualified from the clone wars unless she puts out some kind of monster sweet smelling bud.
plants look great. thats what I did with the hangers. It bought me another week or so. I just ran the cables through the hanger and it halved the distance. I ordered some more rope hangers and I will have to go to each corner of the light with a pulley to get them up to the top of the tent. I’m flipping today. If I don’t I will have a jumangi scenario on my hands.
Go straight rope hangers from the lights to the cross bars, you can take em all the way up.
Plants looking nice!
Like I said my drivers get hot also. I’m at 180w now and they are putting out some heat. I have mine mounted to a board. Which I am rethinking at this point. they are not mounted to the board directly however. I have these beveled rubber spacers under each corner. it lets good air flow under the drivers and keeps them off the wood. I have looked under there and there is no discoloration. I have found the side of the driver where the fins are get the hottest.
That being said I ordered 4 of these fire extinguisher balls. I have no idea how well they will work but I plant on putting one above the driver boards. and one above the tents where all the crap plugs in.
I run all my pictures through an app called “Photo Metadata Remover”. It wipes location, date, and time info and changes the file name.
Being honest, every plant I have had with a variegated leaf “pattern” has been average. I still recommend cloning, as yours could be the exception to the rule. Another thing to consider is, it’s not always about yield, if the flower is fire.
I had an orange bud, that was unique in that it smelled like a fresh peeled orange, but really didn’t produce at all. 50 something grams fully grown. My first grow was twice that from one plant. So I can confidently say that it probably wasn’t me.
Fire extinguisher balls? Hopefully you won’t have to find out if they work as advertised. I’m just gonna ride it out this grow although I was kinda hoping the temps would drop faster than they have been so I could balance out the added heat dehumidifier and the drivers. Next grow I’m gonna mount the drivers on a repurposed led heat sink then mount to a plywood frame or something but hopefully by then I can repurpose and outdoor shed.
I’m not worried about yield at all. If I managed 2 dry ounces per plant but the plant tasted like fresh blueberries and looked like it was covered in fine sugar? I would def keep that clone line instead.
Did you by the extra carabeaners that actually fit around the tent pole separate or did they come with that set? Mine came with my Chinese light so I know I’d need extra if I wanted to still use them but the ones at the hydro store I haven’t looked at closely enough.
I have the ratchets like hooked to themselves and it makes adjusting the lights a pain in the rear end.
3 or 4 bucks a piece at home depot, bought separately
Lights have finally hit full wattage today without curling the tops and that is good news with the tallest plant at 17ish inches from the light. Tomorrow is gonna be alot of work with a watering, another cloning attempt, a bit of defoliation, making adjustments to the lights to add some vertical space and possibly rehanging the trellis if I can make it not look like junk.
In a rare bit of in person interaction on this subject matter the hydro store guy tried to tell me watering to run off isn’t necessary so I could do without the raised platforms if I wanted to add some space but I don’t think Im ready for that kind of change this far into the grow. Also how are people in an illegal state so comfortable talking about this stuff in a public store? No one is directly saying this but it’s all clones this and flower tent that like??? Scares the shit out of me I must look like a crack head when I try to ask a question in some incredibly indirect fashion.
way back in the day I lived in a town that had a hydro store and pager store (yes I said pager)that were run by the police. i would never not elevate my pots. that air movement and drainage seems invaluable to me.
The kid is definitely not police material and the other guy who owns it has the size to be a cop but the store has been open for so many years and alot of the people that go in are regulars so I doubt it’s some sort of honey pot.
My area is in some kind of weird transition stage where we all know it’s gonna be legal soon and law enforcement has pinky promised not to go after anyone who’s not related to a criminal organization but it still skeebs me the heck out.
oh I wasnt saying that. Just remembered something I hadn’t thought about in years. remember hydroponic places don’t just sell to cannabis growers. I searched grow tent on reddit and saw many vegetable gardens and exotic flower setups. It’s really quite incredible. But I agree. It is still strange talking about it to shop owners. I’m just careful what I say however. Where I am from in CA it wasnt uncommon to see black hawk helicopters and CAMP.
Cultivation was my first charge when i was 16! Now its legal… SMH
