She asked to be removed FYI.
Jumping in late Iāmini
To decarb purged oil, youāll need either an oven, a hot plate (with stirrer), or something similar & a pyrex/heatproof glass container.
Pre-heat oven or set hotplate to 260. Place purged oil into container. Place into oven. Stir often. Once tiny bubbles stop forming (this is an actual physical manifestation of the carbon molecule releasing) the oil is decarbed. Caution: the bubbles can really, really foam up! I mean REALLY, REALLY foam up! This is normal, so be prepared!
In my experience, using my oven, it takes a minimum of 30 mins but up to 90 mins, depending on amount of oil.
Awesome. Thanks. Can you explain why/when some qwet concentrate is not dabbing worthy? Is it a taste thing? Or some chemistry related reaction that I just donāt get? Lol. Caligurl walked me down the path in another thread (glad you replied in this thread) we were bombing @Nothingshocking thread. But she actually helped us both out with the qwet proces as she said she learned from you. However she said we can dab it or vape. Just make sure not to decarb if you plan on dabbing. I ordered my gummy bear molds and was taking over a week to get here, and I was getting anxious so I made a batch to dab, and then started another batch today that I decarbed and will use that for edibles when my molds arrive. Iām ramblingā¦I know. Basically just wanted some input on when and when not to dab. I just went and spent $50 on a nectar collector today in hopes I could dab. Please teach me great wise one. Lol
Itās the amount of stuff besides cannabinoids and terps left behind. The biggest offender being chlorophyll. A green/black wash means thereās lots of chlorophyll. This tastes horrid to smoke as a concentrate and is also known to cause headaches.
Qwet is a great starting point for RSO/Feco and Dabs, but you end up with a different outcome depending on how you treat your wash.
Black thumb youāre back good to see ya ive been considering doing a water cure for pots I plan on using for extracts to minimize chlorophyll
I havenāt tried that, myself, just bc it adds an extra step. Iām all about working smarter, not harder (ie, Iām quite lazy).
I ensure all starting material is at 10F Below Zero or colder & do short washes of 60 minutes or less. Definitely have to pay close attention to the wash and strain it before the chlorophyll leeches out.
So you would recommend to dab only whats been made with high quality buds? I just tagged you in another thread. You can respond here if you like, that way we can keep his thread clean and on his topic. I tried a batch and not sure what happened after all my everclear evaporated. Some lil gooey wax, but mostly a dry flaky material. Kind of reminds me of crumble. Accidentally put a little heat to it today. Do that mess it up? Thanks for your time and energy for this thread and all youāve helped me with.
Never mindā¦Just seeen your responce to other thread lol. Thanks
No. Thatās not what makes something dabbable. I make dabs with trim, all the time.
What makes a qwet extract dabbable is a wash that doesnāt pull out chlorophyll. To do this, everything needs to be ice cold to start. The wash needs to be quick. And you have to filter multiple times.
The cold does a few things:
- Makes the trichs fall off the material easier
- Helps keep the material from breaking down in the ethanol (ie, no chlorophyll released)
- For filtering, it freezes the unwanted lipids/waxes/trich husks so that they settle/seperate from the tincture, making filtration easier and more effective
If you treat the wash right, you can make delicious dabs out of your worst plant.
Check out the filters in the dabs pics. See that stuff? Thatās in your concentrate. Itās truly not a horrible thing, itās just not clean enough to dab.
I followed your step by step qwet process. Froze everclear and buds for two days, mixed together shook for 3 mins, (yes I almost hurt myself lol) then freezer for an hour while taking out every 15 mins to shake for 1 minute. Removed and filtered as I said. I guess next thing I need to learn is the winterization and filter process. When you have timeā¦Iād love to learn as much as you wanna teach when it comes to qwet, edibles, and dabbing. I think Iām on the right track (I hope) guess I just need little more direction when it comes to winterization and filtering. Would love to learn how to make my own dabs. Actuallyā¦now that you say I should try to dab it and it will make me highā¦I think Iāll give it a try. Wish me luck. Call my next of kin if you donāt hear from me for few days. Lmao.
Yes, cheesecloth isnāt fine enough to make dabs, unfortunately. You need a cellulose filter. Even a couple coffee filters would be better, especially if everything is frozen after straining/before filtration.
Youāre definitely on your way! Just gotta work on filtration.
Have fun!
Yea sounds like it⦠I know Iāve taken a lot of your time, and I appreciate it. But if you get the time, Iād love to hear more about the filtration process.
Next time I make some dabs, Iāll make sure to document it start to finish for you.
Omgā¦youāre the best. Thanks!!
This kitchen got real lonely without youā¦welcome backā¦donāt leave againā¦
I cannot make any promises, there. Thanks for slumming it in my kitchen with the rest of us.
