BHO extraction thread

That thing is wayy Cool! Looks like its very well made, I love that! :+1:
Thanks you for the tag… Set to watching and learning

Extracted, waiting on recovery. Nobody blew up. For the record, extremely low pressure says we are good and cold.

Helpful suggestion, buy more dry ice. Not that I’m low, I have an adequate amount, but get twice as what you think you need.

Starting to go down. Just a few minutes apart.

Also, funny not funny, I would think I have this kind of luck. Dropped the plug in the alcohol…

Pressure is on its way up during recovery.
Still looking good.

Had 201 WET grams available for extraction, packed the column, and fit 137 grams into it.
Remember all of this was rough trim, but very little stems on anything. Nothing that wouldn’t go into a jar after cured.

Home stretch…

Going to chalk this up as a beginners run, didn’t yield a lot, and I saved the flower to check for trichomes after it dries out a bit. Not really sure what I should have in return, but this was also a wet weight with a lot of water in it. Didn’t weigh it, but here it is in all of its glory…
It’s more than I had before. lol.
I will say it’s EXTREMELY fragrant. Omg. It’s like someone concentrate the entire plant into this. Amazing.

Good Morning Covert.
Looks Great to me, very cool, wish I could smell since I can only imagine it
How long did the entire process take start to fin? just curious.
Lots of valves & levers  still not sure how this whole process works, will have to read up on it.
Thanks for sharing Brother :+1:

Oh that is so cool! Nice work I’m sure you will get better as your experience grows. Good first run.

Had I known it was going to take 6 hours I would have started earlier.

I know I can trim some time off the next run, I’ll have it set up, and less learning. Most of it spent waiting for butane to boil off and be recovered. @Mote
An active recovery pump (meant to compress butane fumes, and liquify then again) would shorten the process substantially. But that’s another 2k.

Valves. I HAVE to mention this. These valves are a not just valves you purchase at the hardware store. These valves have SAFETY locks, so no valve can be “bumped” open. Also butane will always chase the cold, and run from the heat. It will collect at the coldest point. Butane starts to boil at 34°F so you do have to use dry ice. Water ice isn’t cold enough even with salt added. So, figuring out which direction everything is headed, the temperature difference helps, as do several pressure gauges.

Thanks @Bubblehead next run will yield more and take less time.

Only regret so far was not getting a bigger column!

Pretty wild stuff, I just like the contraption  That thing looks like quality build so I can only imagine the valves are of equal quality w the added safety features which is of course a very good idea :+1: to say the least.
You will let us know how the first batch “performs”, very interesting subject in general especially w the accompanying science.
What does the spent plant material look like after the procedure?

You’ll find other quality builds at best value vacs in the search. Of all different prices, but are based out of IL, with an excellent customer service rep. Adam even assured me the smallest vacuum pump would suite my needs. He was correct, it vacuumed out just fine. They come highly recommended, with quality products.

@Mote it looked like a sad soggy mess. Just imagine if you took your beautiful flowers, and crammed them froze them, then they defrosted. Like Defrosted chopped spinach. Lol. But with a good smell.
I did save it to run again, after a rough visual inspection the extraction wasn’t as complete as I was hoping. So I’ll dry it out and run it again. I chalk that up to part of the learning process. I don’t think I had proper soak time. So blame the operator, not the process, on poor yields first run.

Either way, this is the beginning, and I can only do better next time. Just like growing. We all start somewhere, I like to keep that in mind while posting to members that just joined.

Hmmm  that oddly enough sounds appetizing :joy:

Absolutely and I dont doubt that you will . I agree we all have to start somewhere and we get better at it every time. Its like the first pancake, not always the best but you know the rest of the batch will be wayy better  :yum:
I’m just enjoying the ride into unknown territory  :v:

Alright I tried it. Most terpy hit I’ve ever smoked. Or vaped. Using the ghost mv1. Mrs. Covertgrower is really enjoying some as well. She has a dedicated bong with a banger… Highly recommended. I plan to make a run of this sooner than later.

I’ll admit she’s been a trooper through this process. You guys should have seen the kitchen with parts everywhere. She walks in, and says looks like the beginning of Walter whites lab, but the cannabis version. Lmao. Some days she really does have a sense of humor in between anxiety. Lol.

GSC extraction. With a hint of gelato. Lol. Just a filler for the top 2 inches. Make the run count!

And recovering!

Pressures are still good.

Okay, still a learning process. Ground finely, and LOOSELY in the column, we should have better results this time. Re-running same material again.
