Best Root Juice? Voodoo?

I’ve been using the Advanced Nutrient series and while I really enjoy their products, branding, and support, there’s clearly a huge cost implication associated with their products.

I’m thinking about going with Jack’s 321 as my main series next grow. I was planning to also keep big bud, bud candy, and factor x in the supplements. Considering picking up senzesym or however that’s spelled and then was looking at the voodoo plus tablets.

I use voodoo juice now and it seems like great stuff but I’m running through it quick at the price tag it comes with. The tablets at least give the other bacteria at a similar price and better quantity, but I’m not really interested in having a large active batch to manage and aerate.

What is everyone else using for root support and supplement?

I use Urb (a microbe product) and mykos, which is a fungus that works with your roots to build a better root network.

Don’t use multiple microbe products. Pick one and stick with it and only use it as directed. Overuse of microbes can cause problems.

Avoid bloom boosters altogether. They aren’t worth the risk, as the nutrient product you already use contains sufficient P and K. Excess P and K aren’t necessary and they pose the risk of a salt buildup which may submarine your pH, requiring flushes to manage pH.

Good to know and thanks for the advice! I’ll check out those products for sure. Yeah I was hoping for something mostly one and done for the microbes since they need resources and can compete.

Is there anything beyond nutrients you do for increased size, potency, and flavor or are you saying that it’s mostly genetic with a little luck occasionally that boosts those outcomes?

Genetics certainly matter, but it’s mostly environment (proper watering, proper PPFD, proper PPM, proper pH, and so on…

That makes sense. I’m working towards building up those tools and practices for sure, but it’s definitely a work in progress. Doesn’t help my first kiddo will be here any day so a little worried about being able to keep up with it all after. I think you may have recommended the Jack’s to me in another thread and I’ve been reading some great stuff since so appreciated again.

I used the Fox Farm Trio for a couple of years before switching to Jacks. The Trio caused a bunch of problems with pH in flowering, so I am glad to have moved on. No such problems with Jacks.

Do you use anything else other than the Jack’s and microbe/fungus mentioned earlier? I’d definitely be interested in the relative feeding schedule per stage if you don’t mind sharing.

I follow Jacks 321 recommendation and adjust as necessary to maintain a runoff PPM of ~1,000. Individual plants are going to have different demands. I have had plants that I had to feed a double dose to in order to maintain that target 1,000 runoff PPM.

I don’t use any other products other than mykos, silica, and Jacks nutrients plus Epsom.

Awesome, thanks! What is the Epsom salt for and how do you generally dose it?

Oh and what growing media do you typically use?

Magnesium. 1.1 grams per gallon.

Soil, though coco has its advantages.

I was considering doing a mix of pre mix next time. 1 part Fox Farms Ocean Forest on bottom to one part happy frog on top with maybe a 2 ish inch layer of sand on top. I’ve been struggling with fungus gnats a little and wanted to move to larger biomass to the bottom of the pot and also felt like the Ocean Forest definitely gave the two that were planted directly instead of with plugs a little shock that made them a little slower to start.

What soil do you use?

I use FF Happy Frog.

Typically due to not giving soil enough dry time between waterings. Diatomaceous earth is effective for fighting them.

Adding perlite to your soil can help with drainage. I put in 20% perlite by volume.

Good to know! Do you mix the perlite into the happy frog or place it above/below?

It’s mixed in evenly.
