Best DLI for Autoflower?

I just learned about DLI today. According to Photone they recorded a DLI of 40 in bloom mode. I had mine to high. Into the sixties. But they are growing like hell! The tallest one is almost 28 inches today. I was adjusting my light by PAR, but that was to high. Anyway here they are

I know a guy from youtube who give 24/0 5-600ppfd seedling / 1000ppfd to bloom autoflower plant and a lot of training. He does get a big yield plant.

Here’s some more food for thought on DLI.

I love him! I might have seen this, however I might not have understood him at the time. I watch his stuff over and over. I’ll check this one out for sure.

So, I’m using the Photone App with their diffuser. Do I take readings from the top of the plant? That’s what I did. I moved the phone from the top and around each plant and adjusted the intensity until I found that sweet spot. However what about all the buds in the lower branches. They don’t get as much DLI or PAR. So do I turn the intensity up so they get 45 DLI?

It’s measured by the top of the canopy. This is why it’s important to use LST, defoliation, scrog, and other techniques to keep an even canopy for light penetration. You can also tuck leaves that cover bud sites. But it’ll be keeping up on these methods that produces even light distribution and air circulation in veg and early flower. The more I grow the more aggressive I get with LST because it produces way better results. At least for me…

Thanks for the reply. On two of them, the two tallest I drilled holes around the top of the pot and wired the branches down all the way around. I’ve been doing leaf tucking, but those suckers somehow wiggle back out! It’s to late for this grow, but my next one I’m going to try SCROG. This is first grow and I didn’t want to take risks. I just want a good outcome. I’ve sure learned a lot!

Theres some things you can do to get to those lower branches.
I’ve mounted 4 100 watt far red LEDs, 1 in each corner, angling down at about 45deg. Also I’ve mounted a 100watt UVA light at the front middle at 45deg. These are in addition to my 2 480watt HYPHOTONFLUX HLG4000 grow fixture above.
The Far Red can penetrate deeper into the canopy and has the Emerson Effect on your plants.

So what brand Far Red? What is the Emerson Effect?

They are yescom’s. I start them 15 minutes before lights for 30 minutes then back on about 15 minutes before lights off for another 30 minutes. The uv kicks on when 15 minutes before light on and off 15 minutes after lights off.
I seen some YouTube videos and read a few articles using red and far red enhances growth.

Far red and uva from the same manufacturer?

It was on Amazon a couple years ago. Now there are better UV bar lights I’d recommend.
But mine is a Floodoor 100w 380-420nm indoor/outdoor water resistant floor lamp.

Awesome thanks for the info. I’ll be looking into these tonight. Much appreciated!

As you up the lighting you’ll also need to keep an eye on the temps. I have some monitoring for temp, humidity and CO2. If you keep the intake going replenishing air in your tent you’ll both help control temps and replace CO2.

Ok. Temps here are hard to cool easy to warm. Autopots are making big plants and my 450w led isn’t cutting it. so I ordered a g8600 which the ballast can stay outside the tent and hopefully gives me room to adjust heat. I’ve been looking at the red and blue uva uvb lights. Spider farmer has blue and red that will attach to the new light just wasn’t sure about efficiency, is it a gimmick etc. but I don’t remember exactly which does which only wanted them. I also use supplemental C02 and getting around 1300ppm. In-line is decent enough to exhaust heat so far. Ish. I’m interested now.

Man! That’s an enviable problem you got there. Plants to big because of Autopot. Ima get me some autopots! What are you growing? Periods or Autos? Any pics?

Right now autos in autopots. Organic nutes. 24/7 light. Last run over 300g per. This run maybe a little more. Had a lot of ph issues and I’m sure lost some weight.
