Best budget Grow light for 3’x5’x8’?

My first commercial seeds come soon and I have looked and looked I don’t know who to trust as far as reviewers or manufacturers for lights. Prior to ilgm I killed 20 scrap seeds and I finally got my last scrap to take. The only reason they were dying was I didn’t have any light on them. Now I have a clip on 30 watt Phillips led spotlight keeping it alive once it gets height lighting will be inadequate. I need something better but the most I will convince wife will be 150. She would shoot me if I buy a 300+ light. Please help

i recommend using HLG and use discount code dude for 10%. prices are going up on the 1st. so if you choose them, order soon.

Am I right to understand I need something like 450 watts for my closet?

What kind of budget are ya working with?
@dbrn32
I would 2nd the HLG. Maybe your handy and can do diy like me and many others or their kits and code to save a buck. They are probably gonna recommend 2 lights for better control. Good luck and Welcome

Scale back your size and over time grow into it. That said; for one plant an HLG QB135 R-Spec shipped through Rightbud cost me $167.00. That will do one solid plant. You simply can’t cheap out on light as it drives everything.

Just my $.02

Ive had success with the Mars Hydro TS 1000. Get that, with a daisy chain for 139.00 on Amazon.

I literally just ordered a GreenBeams 240 W lamp. They make two lights, a 240 and a 480.

$179 + $17 shipping. Ordered yesterday, shipped today - from the USA.

  • Diodes - 576 top-bin diodes. Samsung LM301B and Epistar 660nm. Full Spectrum, which is ideal for all growth phases. Our light spectrum is tailored by 3000K warm white, 5000K neutral white, and 660nm deep red diodes to optimize growth.

It’s a bit more than 150, but it’s not insanely over for what looks to be a good light.

  • Driver - 240W Meanwell HLG driver (the best Meanwell driver, as opposed to XLG or ELG).

I had 2 cheaper lights that were not sufficient for my 4x4. Finally, got a good light thanks to the pros here.

Not a lot of good lights in $150 range. If you want good results i would try qb 135 kit or Diablo 200 from hlg. They will give you good flowering intensity out to about 2’x2’ space.

You will find lights cheaper that will say they cover more, but these usually don’t work out as well as they’re advertised. Most that buy them end up replacing them pretty quickly.

Is outdoors an option for you? Cant really beat the sun for a best grow light.

I’ve got a 3x5x8 flower foot print and run two ChilLed x3 mini lights.

I’m enjoying them. Good luck brother! :+1:t2::v::sunglasses:

How big is your closet? Not sure if mods would frown on this but i may be able to help you out. I used 4 famurs tf1200 for my plants when they were seedlings up to the 5th week of veg once my HLG 550 rspecs arrived. I almost went the cheap light route until I understood how critical it is. The famurs are 100 watts a piece from the wall with dimmers. I have 4 available that are just sitting in a closet and will never be used again. I’d do $50 a piece for them. All 4 would get you a total of 400 watts. They use Samsung diodes( so they say) very solidly built. Not sure how to even go about it if you were interested or if im even allowed to post this. Lol

Please remove mods if im violating any rules by this offer.

If cant go up to an HLG i can guarantee enfun boards…2k kit under 200…are friggin solid. I have 4 of their boards i use to single out plants. The new build is 10x the old build. Samsung 301b. Hlg drivers. Seperate boards with detached driver. My 550r much better BUILD but the enfun boards match the output qboard for qboard. Old build was so flaky on power coupling. They fixed that.

Welcome to the community looks like you’re off to a good start. As mentioned scale back to a smaller space With one plant an use a quality less expensive light. You will not go wrong with H LG lights.

:point_up_2: that advice is worth more than $.2 :love_you_gesture:

Ask me I have a closet full of lights from not listening and adding and adding to meet the need light lol. Then the electric bill is a killer on the pocket to run all them lights fans ect. One good light that cost a bit out the pocket upfront will save u massive headache and alot of heartache. Cheap light pit out cheap weed as I’ll call it. Light airy fluffy stuff where as a good light puts out the nice dense buds covered in trics. Don’t skimp on lights and genetics and ur wife will let u do what needs to be done for u to grow them bomb buds
