Are you working the rigs?
I think I asked you this before? Old age …
I used to, was a rig/frack paramedic till covid now I work at the border for the Alberta government right now through a contractor.
I would suggest not topping too. The plant has a nice natural shape, and with any luck will put a lot of mass where trunk can support it.
hey dbrn, what do you think about that image I posted?
Its clear, well focused, has nice lighting, is well balanced, and looks rather lovely. Might make a wall hanging out of that?
Looks like a very nice picture!
thanks! Once in a while I get a keeper. Where the image is in focus, the subject is well proprtioned and in the correct spot for balance, and the light is right. Of course this is a phone shot! Samsung galaxy s10
Ugh.
I’ve been battling those little monsters for a year.
I’ve lost several plants, and some of what I have harvested has been sub par as a result of them.
I’ve tried raising the temps into the high 80’s, but the aphids continued. I tried keeping it cooler (high 60’s), I sprayed with Monterey garden/spinosad and it knocked them back a bit each time, but it never got rid of them. I tried hosing them off. I’ve used neem. I’ve used dr. Zymes. I’ve used JMS stylet oil. I may have lost track of the products I’ve tried.
The big problem is that they’re now mostly in my flowering room and it’s tough to get super aggressive with flowering plants. I’m also hesitant to spray chemical pesticides.
So this spring I decided to try an aphid predator. I went with green lacewings at first. That was mostly a failure. I’m not sure why, but they just never integrated into my grow. Plus the larva can bite you.
Then I went with a generalist predator, ladybugs. I dumped 1500 of them into my grow over a week. Mostly in the flowering room, but also into the veg room and my tents. The were voracious at first. Then they just kind of hid everywhere and I’d see the occasional one on a plant.
Turns out that’s how they are. Lazy. They rarely eat all the bugs. When you get harvested ladybugs they’ve frequently already mated, already gorged themselves, and are frequently old. Not to mention the ethical, environmental and potential disease impacts from importing them.
All that aside they did do a decent job of keeping the aphid population down. So I decided to order another round, another 1500. This time though I’m tossing in a weekly spray down with beneficial nematodes. Mycotrol WPO. It’s certainly not cheap. It’s not supposed to harm the lady bugs. If it works I’ll consider it a bargain.
I just applied it for the first time yesterday. Fingers crossed.
Sounds like most bugs, a nightmare.
I’m gonna get hydrogen peroxide and bud wash the plant hopefully that works
Okay so I have the Tangie matic sativa from fast buds that needs to be chopped, maybe tonight I’m sorta busy today… Golfing lol.
I have the two out of control Northern lights outside that I will deal with tomorrow.
Clearing my shed out tomorrow (more like organizing) and put the plants inside with the lights and a timer as well as a heater and controller.
I chopped all the other plants down and delt with the one plant that had aphids.
Lucky for me the aphids were controlled to one and a half branches, they mostly seem to like the stems and the fan leafs.
I took the plant apart branch by branch and cut as many leafs off as I could so I had a really detailed look at the plant, as well as bud washed the whole thing. The one and a half branches that had the buds got a wet trim and I really soaked the buds multiple times in the hydrogen peroxide /water mix as well as a rinse. This got a fair amount of stuff off but definitely didn’t kill all the bugs. I’m happy that it was limited because the bud wash didn’t work as I was hoping it would.
So for future reference, bud wash is good and it works but it’s not a cure all and aphids are a nasty problem. Geuss that’s the joys of outdoor though not much you can do.
I fear my seeds probably won’t be here in time soooo I went through my autos.
I could grow
Purple Afghani indica
TXL hybrid? (is that right @Not2SureYet)
Fro yo hybrid (g13 labs)
I think I’m going to go to my local hydro store with my fem seeds and see if I can trade some fems for autos.
I have some other autos that are cbd, and some islands sweet skunk as well as the TXL I want to grow outside next year. I have lemon ak seeds to but I have like 20z of it right now cured.
Do you need a few autos? I can probably get some there by early next week I would guess.
Triple XL is a 3 way auto cross of Northern Lights #5 x Big Bud x Green Crack
I’m going to go seed swap with my local guys if I can tomorrow.
I’ll buzz you if that falls through but we should swap each other I’ll make that list tomorrow and send it to you
When I grow long running photos like these, aphids are never a problem, because these plants will run into the cold. Aphids will be less of an issue, mold will become more of one.
I’m getting a list of mephisto genetics my local guy will let me buy / trade for some photos.
UPS called me today gave me the wrong tracking number and now I cant pay for my item before it crosses the border.
So I called them but nothing we can do but wait for another automated call…
Boo on UPS
Who did you get them from? You should be able to get the tracking number from their site. And shoot me a note when you have the chance.
Finally got the UPS thing sorted, turns out it’s a warranty return on my curecork. Fingers crossed it works this time. Ugh what a waste of money it’s been. Good in theory not that great in practice lol.
So the girl got us a special little treat before she headed back to year three of nursing.
We tried sensi star Live RESIN BADDER
smells great, looks great, rated officially at 76%… Effects… Meh not impressed at all and it was pricey! But no reviews on it and its the best thing so they say in the store as far as fancy goes so we splurged
Live resin is a solvent extract so we wanted to compare it to live Roisin (bubble hash pressed by a rosin machine)
So I ordered up a little treat of El jefe live Roisin from a MOM along with some island sweet skunk (to try while mine cures)
And some og kush
I got the OG kush due to some reports of it being a giggly strain and that’s what ide love to have in hand. So I’m going to be hunting for giggly strains, I don’t laugh enough in my young middle aged life =P
I will give a smoke report next week and I will be soon sharing some pictures post trim.
I’m going to be making bubble hash next week with all the larf & shake so I’m excited about thst because before it was going to be turned into oil or bidder, but I’m not one for edibles much.
I have a sweet tooth that is supposed to be like that. my fruit punch had me laughing for about an hour and a half. I sent you an email if you can open it
The OG kush I grew outdoors a while ago was one of the best I had ever had, and truly giddy.
I’m excited to try mine then!
@Not2SureYet reading it.
Wait Brian you smoked some? Wowozsr lol fruit punch eh
