Auto versus femme

What are the real pluses and minuses of auto versus fem. Would be my second grow.

Longer controlled veg time resulting in obviously larger yields. Autos work if you’re trying to save space or be more discrete I guess

1 of the big reasons is with autos is that any mistake you make can result in a stunned plant whether when transplanting, topping or fimming. With Fem you have time to make any correction’s. Also with Fem photo larger yields vs autos. I started with autos and have switched to Fem. photo.

Thank you for your input. Are auto feminized optimum? And can I even get them?

With Femenized, you have to keep 100% of the outside light from getting into your tent when you “flip” them to flowering by changing the light cycle to 12 hrs light & 12 hours darkness

All autos are feminized. Just means a girl who flowers to make buds.

I’m going to do a bath tub spare bathroom 2x4’ 3-4 plants grow and will probably do autos, it’ll be my second grow and I’ll be documenting. I made mistakes on the first grow but I got a few good buds out of them I hope. One more week to harvest.

No disrespect @VirginiaGrowBoy but there are regular autos also. Most are fem but you can find reg.

Autos are great due to earlier harvest and u dont have to change light cycle for them to to flower yes u dont get much veg time but it doesnt mean that you cant super crop or top or fim a auto flower and photos you have a longer veg time and u have to change ur light cycle

There are three basic types of cannabis. Indica, Sativa (both photoperiod) and Ruderalis. The ruderalis are quick growing and flowering plants from colder environments and are generally added to the mix for that trait (autoflowers).

So, auto vs. photoperiod? I suggest photos because they can bounce back from mistakes a new grower might make where autos are locked into their own timeline and that varies (by a lot).

Naturally these plants will produce seeds and these seeds will be mix of male and female seeds. Feminized seeds are made my forcing a female plant to produce male parts and pollinate itself. Feminized seeds are better for most growers…

It is auto flower VS photoperiod both can be feminized or auto VS photo. Both can be feminized. I do photoperiod and like the results better than with my one auto run. They have came a long way with auto’s in the last couple of years but i still like photo’s. Wife still says its better. I don’t know thought so.e of the guys on here seem to do really good with auto’s. Personally i think it is best to start with photoperiod and learn the ropes before trying auto’s because if you make newbie mistakes you have time to learn and correct.

I assumed the OP was asking it in regards to seeds they were planning to purchase here on ILGM . Just giving the answer that the autos here are also females since they may not have realized it. Anyway, I thought that was the intent of the question. No worries

But thanks! So, can you buy males (or just unsexed) autos in the market?

:+1:

They are just regular seeds. 50-50 male/female (or so it should be).

Yes, I agree ilgm only sells female seeds. Totally agree

But there are regular autos from other seed banks.

Sorry for confusion

@emgoldslo

Yes, we are both right. I see. Just talking about different seed companies.

No worries.

This forum is where I first learned to grow from experienced growers who didn’t look down on a newbie like me… and I will never forget that.

Auto’s can be regular seeds also meaning not Feminized. Not many banks sale them because well, if everyone had autoflower males no one would be seeds anymore cause they could make their own just one time and have years of seeds… …

But regular autoflower seeds can ne found if you search for them.
