Any advice for adding uva?

Hey guys ! Been a while! So im halfway through veg with apple fritter fem. thing is doing great.
Im probably going to add a couple 2’ uva bars from spider farmer for flower, but i realize if i go in blind i could wreck it. Any advice will be appreciated!

I’ve been using uva for years now.

I use hlg uva30 in my tents… 12 hours max. At manufacturers recommended height above canopy.

I have used it in both veg, flower, and throughout the grow.

I now use it in flower only again for 12 hours… So if growing regular Photoperiod… Same as flower lighting of 12/12.

If growing autoflowers, center the 12 hours of uva light in the middle of your regular lights time… So if you are at 18 hours per day… First and last three hours no uva.

Shut off the uva before entering… Or wear long sleeves and uv glasses… Stay away from uvb and especially uvc

I add my UVA once she is full of hedgehogs. Typically the 3rd week of flowering. My way is not “the” way but here is what I do. First week 1 hour per day, 2nd week 2 hours per day, 3rd week 4 hours per day and from the 4th week til harvest I run it at 8 hours per day.

I have the HLG UVA24 right under my 350 Evo.

[/quote] interesting… as I’ve started reading it becomes a bit confusing. So, some places suggest only a few minutes per hour of light, and other sources say as you guys are saying, 12 hours. So i guess the question becomes what factors might influence the need for more or less uva? Looks like you guys have great lighting. I have 600w of vivosun aerolites. 6 100w units.
And i was mistaken about the uva product. It is Mars hydro uv30
Sorry if i seem a bit dense. Trying to set myself up for a win.

@Rockdog62 hlg’s suggested usage:

Was designed for 12hr.

I have used it starting in veg… The leaves get a bit thicker/tougher… But did not measure and do it science like… I do my best to save money per grow… 12 hours during flower starting at the flip works very well for me.

Uvb is the one that needs much less time and is much more dangerous… Uvc would literally only need a minute or less… But is very dangerous and i don’t mess with it nor recommend it.

I stopped using uvb after my last bulbs died… I have not noticed a considerable difference and would not recommend wasting money nor taking chances with it…

UVA is essentially tanning bulbs… But either way… As a stoner… I always forget to turn off the uv lights before entering and working in my tents… Safety first!

It was easier and safer to omit the uvb.
