An Old Rooster in the Weeds with an Auto

Heads up, might not respond immediately, this will require some digestion. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Well that sucks. @Budbrother this is the one hes having issues with.

At this point, it is what it is.
Bean in soil April 5, above ground on the 9th.
Pretty long run for an auto, just hoping for some trich development.

Id sure wait her out. Ive heard of autos dragging azz before.

I had one go 100, maybe 110 days.
I’m making popcorn and following this to the finish :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

There you go. Play it on 33 1/3. Speaking of…

Still love Dolly!

I’d wait her out Brother, those pistols haven’t even begun to turn orange!

So this is the bud development right now (not even close to ripening)-

She also showed signs of tipping over mid-stem this morning, so I rigged up a quick fix to keep her upright:

We’re still gonna ride this out to the end, I’ve got too much time and money invested just to chop her.

Just a crazy question do you use silica My Brother?

:victory_hand::love_you_gesture::oncoming_fist:

Aloe sucks as a wetting agent. It takes so much to work. Yucca has way more saponins.

I see -Zn of the curled tips and progression towards petiole. I’d say pH is probably high or it’s staying overly wet.

@Dman1969 , I’ve never used silica, but I have considered using it for stem and branch strength.

I agree, the aloe did next to nothing. I used to have a wetting agent in my arsenal, and will definitely have one in the future :+1:
She has become the poster child of def, it’s definitely not excessive water. My soil Ph has got to be insane right now.

Here’s a bit more info it does a lot more than strengthening the branches. :victory_hand::love_you_gesture::oncoming_fist:

Silica acts as a “super vitamin” that fortifies cannabis plants, yielding thicker stems, heavier buds, and robust protection against environmental stress, pests, and diseases. While not classified as one of the 17 essential plant nutrients, it serves as a powerful performance enhancer for both soil and soilless hydroponic systems. [1, 2, 3]

:building_construction: Structural Enforcement

  • Thicker cell walls: Silica accumulates directly inside plant cell walls to form a rigid, protective matrix.

  • Massive stem support: Thickened, woody stems easily carry the weight of dense, heavy flowers during late bloom without snapping.

  • Optimized vascular system: Wider branches improve the dynamic transport of essential nutrients and water across plant tissues. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

:shield: Pest and Pathogen Defense

  • Mechanical bug barrier: Hardened leaf surfaces dull the mouthparts of chewing insects and deter piercing pests like spider mites or thrips. [1, 2, 3]

  • Fungal immunity boost: Toughened plant tissue blocks the entry of destructive spores, preventing infections like powdery mildew or pythium. [1, 2]

  • Targeted self-healing: When under attack, cannabis sends stored silica directly to the wounded area to spark targeted anti-fungal defenses. [1]

:sun: Climate and Stress Resilience [1]

  • Extreme heat and cold shielding: Silica regulates transpiration, helping your canopy survive intense grow room temperatures or sudden cold snaps.

  • Drought defense: Enhanced cell rigidity prevents collapsing and reduces critical water loss during dry spells.

  • Toxicity filtration: It protects delicate root zones from absorbing toxic concentrations of heavy metals found in poorer soils. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

:herb: Higher Yield and Flower Quality [1]

  • Maximized photosynthesis: Stiffer stems keep leaves pointing directly at light sources, increasing chlorophyll concentration and overall biomass. [1, 2]

  • Thicker trichomes: Advanced microscopic analysis shows silica results in more robust, structurally sound trichomes. [1]

  • Bigger buds: Healthy nutrient uptake combined with zero structural sagging lets the plant focus all energy on producing dense flower weight. [1, 2, 3]

:test_tube: Pro-Tips for Application

  1. Mix silica first: Liquid silica supplements (like Armor Si or Dyna-Gro ProTekt) are highly alkaline. Always dissolve them fully into your reservoir water before adding any base nutrients or Cal-Mag to avoid nutrient lockout. [1, 2, 3, 4]

  2. Choose your form wisely: Potassium silicate products are affordable but take about six weeks to become bio-available to roots. Highly concentrated monosilicic acid formulas cost more but absorb instantly. [1, 2]

  3. Try foliar feeding: Applying silica directly onto leaves as a light mist yields rapid structural absorption and provides localized surface protection against molds. [1, 2]

To finish my review of USOA Green Crack flower (kinda a summary from my opinion, my wife’s opinion and my bosses…):

  1. On bag smell and bud appearance, we’re pretty much on the same page. Thick, dense flowers. I’d bet money they’re machine trimmed, these are cleaner than a 16 year old nun.
  2. Smoke and effect:
The feel of the flower, and how it grinds, is new to me. And to the Missus and boss. It was perfect humidity, but had a spongy, “dry” feel to it… not sticky at all. Everyone said it took longer to grind.
I wonder what their curing process is? Maybe a freeze cure? Don’t know.
Personally, me and the Missus like the smoke and effect. It’s nowhere near as zippy as the GC I grew before, but it’s a nice daytime/ afternoon smoke. No jitters, no couchlock, a good active high.
My boss thought it lacked a real kick… this is the guy who mixed all my samples into one jar and said “it gets my high”
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the purchase.
I’m not sure I’d recommend it to a grower, but for someone wanting legal flower (thca, check your state laws), without worrying about quality or unwanted “additives”, this is a great option.
I will say again that this is 44% thca.
Perfectly legal in many states… just be careful not to expose it to heat. Especially a match or a lighter.
Heat sources like that will convert it immediately into delta 9, good ol THC. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Thank you @Dman1969 !!
Fantastic information, I need to really catch up!
