Adequate tent ventilation, which would you use?

Hey there, how’s it growing? I’m going to bet that’s not the first time you’ve heard that. So, I’m setting up a 60 x 60 x 80 tent and I’m very restricted in space. I have a 6 inch inline exhaust fan that moves 395 CFM unrestricted. I have it on top of the tent with a single 90 degree bend in the 6 inch hose with no filter. I was originally was going to connect two 6 inch flexible ducts to the two lower corner pass-throughs on the tent for passive air inlets. And I can still do this, BUT, as mentioned, I’m restricted in space.

And now that I have the 6 inch hose between the tent and the wall, it has reduced the space between the tent and the side of my bed to about 11 inches. I don’t think I can live with that and swapping out my king size bed in not feasible at this time.

I’ve had the tent about 4 inches from the wall for some time now and I can live with that but if I had it against the wall, that’d even be better! So now instead, I’m thinking I’ll swap out the 6 inch for an 8 inch duct on the bed side inlet and I was going to put a 4 inch on the wall side but now I’m thinking it would be even better with no duct on that side, push that tent against the wall.

Which finally brings me to my question. Would I still have adequate ventilation through the tent with the 6 inch fan pulling from an 8 inch inlet alone, do you think? What would you do? Should I still put the 4 inch on the wall side just to be sure? :man_shrugging:

I have a 4x4 tent sealed up tight with a 6” exhaust, 3 fans circulating air inside the tent and no type of inlet. They’re not needed imo

With no inlet, how is enough displacement air getting in? Isn’t your exhaust fan overworking?

You may be overthinking things. My plants are always happy and I’ve had my current exhaust fan over 4yrs now. When I first started growing in a tent I had an inline fan pumping air into the tent thinking I needed to supply more air but the one I had was really loud so I removed it and saw no difference in my grows. Since then I haven’t used any type of inlet air

Have we met? I’ve been known to over think things, lol, but it usually proves to serve me well.

From what I’ve gathered, the plants need the air inside the tent circulated through to supply them with fresh oxygen. I have two 6 inch inlet ducts on my 4 x 2 tent and the walls still suck in like crazy with the exhaust fan on it’s lowest setting. I’m thinking of running a second rheostat on it. I’m pretty sure it’s getting adequate displacement.

:joy: I’m just the same way but realized over the years less is more with these plants. I just make sure the room my tent is in has a temperature around 70 degrees with the humidity in the low 50’s and keep the ph in balance. As long as that environment is on point everything inside the tent should be right where you want it under LED’s. My exhaust is set on auto but it seems to usually run at a low speed.

Ahh, no fancy gadgets here. The rheostat is as fancy as I get   :v:

I have a 6" (402 cfm) running my 5x5 and it is plenty. I do have 4- 6" circ fans, the 2 in the back are in the top corners, and the 2 in the front by the door are pot level. If I really needed to, I could have the exhaust fan in the tent. I have just always kept my exhaust fans outside the tent for more space in the tent. But in the 5x5 there would be plenty of space in the tent.

I like a lot of fans inside the tent too

Especially in a 5x5.

I don’t use an intake fan I simply take the vent cover on the bottom of the tent and put a fan outside of the vent pushing all new fresh air into the tent works like a charm for me

I have all of mine outside also. I have plenty of room above the tent that’s not being used for anything else.

That’s me!!! I run two oscillating fans, a corner pole clip on and a standing 6 inch double decker, and a 6 inch clip on over the light in my 4 x 2. I plan on doubling that in the 5 x 5.

Are you growing autos or do you have light leaks through the vents handled?

I dont zip my tents up all the way. Helps with humidity for me. I’m in a basement and dont worry about light leaks. Fan either in front or on side blowing fresh air in from outside tent. Plus fans in the tent. 4" exhaust fan in a 3x3, and a 6" exhaust fan in a 4x4.

I grow autoflowers. It definitely cause light leak into your tent for sure
