Wilting for 6 days! I am banging my head on the wall trying to troubleshoot. Any help is very appreciated.
I transplanted four very happy seedlings into the 2 gal fabric pots, two days after transplanting they all wilted. They have been like this for almost a week.
I let the pots dry out for 6 days utilizing one exhaust fan and two interior oscillation fans. I weighed the pots and determined that they were dry, then gave about 3 oz bottled spring water (PH=8.0) to each. Two days after that, they are all still wilted. Perhaps more…
So, could it be the soil mix? Is it the spring water? something else?.
I am about to cull all four and start again. Perhaps with a different soil mix.
Even if i get these girls healthy again, will the genetics be all messed up…yield…other problems?
Here is the details of the grow:
2.3 x 2.3 x 5 grow tent
Mars Hydro TS-1000 lamp
My lights were at 18" / 75% power.
Temp 72 F 47% humidity
18/6 light schedule
Seed supreme seeds Acapulco Gold and Purple haze (2 of each) feminized
Seedlings grown in solo cups with only Happy Frog
After two weeks I transplanted (very strong roots) into 2 Gal cloth pots filled with a base of FFOF and a little Happy frog to help the seedlings adapt.
No nutrients added
Right after re-potting, I gave each plant 1/2 liter of spring water
Two days later major wilting!
(Sorry I x-posted with another forum. I am desperate!)
The TS-1000 is a 100 watt light and is insufficient for that many plants. It is barely enough for 1 plant. Suggest better lighting or throttling your appetite for the number of plants. One well-lit plant will outperform 2 poorly lit plants. You’ll need a whole lot more light than you currently have to have productive plants.
pH may be the problem. The proper range is 6.3 to 6.8. pH is on a logarithmic sccale, so 8.0 is extremely high and needs to be corrected.
Try to relax. They dont appear in imminent danger. Possibly over watered? Your pH definitely needs to be closer to 6.5. You’re in the right place. This forum will get you fixed up. Kudos on sending pics and info of your grow.
I agree with everyone else. pH of 8.0 is totally unacceptable needs to come down to 6.5
As @MidwestGuy said they need more appropriate lighting. Get the pH under control, fix your lighting issue, proper watering and them girls will be just fine
Agree on this PH out of range but 3 ounces is not enough water/feed. Drench those pots then let them go through the drought period, those plants are old enough and in early veg not seedlings
I grow in larger pots but I don’t think that 3 oz is not enough water to keep the soil from becoming hydrophobic. I don’t how much for pots that small but I would think around a quart or so then wait for it to get light before doing it again.
Edit: I was typing while you were @OGIncognito. LOL
Edit #2:@Old_Coder I would even consider setting your pots in a container of pH adjusted (6.5) water to completely saturate the soil. I suspect that you have dry pockets that won’t take water unless forced.
I’m thinking the same. Many others called attention to the PH. Its always wrong to assume, but I assumed natural spring water would actually be good for the plants.
Lesson learned.
I have well water here that i just measured and its 6.7.
Thanks so much for your input!
Thank you! I was mistakenly thinking that it was a too much water issue. From all the comments on here, i was probably under watering and with not so good PH water!
Thank you! I may have to do that. I’m switching water today, and watering a lot more.
I only used three ounces as a test, as I really thought they were over-watered.
Hi there @Old_Coder Welcome to the community. Great place here.
Are you intending to grow all 4 in that 2.3 x 2.3? Even in 2 gal pots, it might get a bit crowded in there for you.
Happy growing
OH, and I didn’t see the young seedling in the middle. Ha!
The first few weeks from breaking ground is where it gets tricky with overwatering. Once they have established roots after the transplant (2ish weeks) they’re ready for the drench to drought routine. Overwatering is frequency related and not the amount given at 1 time. Best advice I can give you for soil grows is the drench to drought routine
