About the Strain of the Month category

Each month we will he running a contest for 3 strains that ILGM sells. It doesn’t matter when you purchased the seeds, but they have to be ILGM genetics. Pictures should be similar to BOM, meaning a picture of a bud/cola in late flower.

At the end of the month, we will have a one week voting period where the winner will be chosen.

  • Why should people use this category? What is it for?
Show off your ILGM strains for a chance to win prizes including free seeds!

  • How exactly is this different than the other categories we already have?
By having each strain as it’s own category, people will have more chances to win prizes.

  • What should topics in this category generally contain?
Pictures of buds/cola/plant of ILGM genetics only. No banter or side chatter in this category.

  • Do we need this category? Can we merge with another category, or subcategory?

It’s really easy:

First click the “reply” button…

In the window that pops up, you can type whatever you need to and when you want to include/upload a picture, just click on the seventh icon in the bar… the one that looks like a “picture”…

That will open a window where you get to pick the location of the picture and choose whatever picture you want to upload. Do it 1 at a time to prevent any mishaps…
Once you clicked on the picture you want to upload, just click on the button “open” (ouvrir, in my case)… That will upload the picture. Make sure you wait for it to finish before doing another one…

And that’s it!

I think it is distasteful to only allow ILGM genetics in the best bud contests. It is kind of arrogant to assume that the best buds on earth can only come from ILGM.

Seriously???

So let me get this right:
You come to a forum created and sponsored by a seed bank, Ilgm.
(I don’t know if you’re aware, but that’s freaking expensive to maintain. )
Here, anybody can get help, or help anyone needing it to grow the best cannabis they can, regardless of where the seeds were bought.
Also, the moderators do their best to create fun contests for all the growers.
You can win seeds every now and then with certain contests. All of this free of charge to all of us.

And here, in Ilgm’s home you complain because they want to reward and show off the buds grown by their customers. You feel they don’t give you enough?
They never said or bragged that their products produce the best buds on Earth but they do thank their customers and members in all kinds of ways… :man_facepalming:

I havent bought any ILGM seeds before but went to see if i could enter my buds into a contest. It appears I cannot, unless I lied about my genetics and I am an honest person.

I was considering ordering some ILGM seeds in the near future but with that kind of attitude I think I will pass.

There are multiple free cannabis growing forums on the internet and most of them do not sell seeds. Yes, maintaining a seed company is expensive - but most seed companies make their money by selling seeds. Running a business in general is usually expensive, with some exceptions. I think the forum is a great way to increase traffic to your business, but the forum itself is not expensive to run and most free forums don’t sell seeds in the first place. And most seed companies sell seeds without forums. Neither should be dependent on the other too exist.

I think by only allowing your own strains in the contests it just raises more doubt. If the genetics are so good then why not let them compete? Ultimately you are competing anyway, as people won’t make a purchase decision based on a cannabis contest that only involves your own genetics. Whereas in contests such as the cannabis cup that allow everyone to compete - people do actually make buying decisions based on those types of results.

I’m sorry if explaining my logic makes you feel very hurt and offended. I am an honest person and like to voice my opinion. Sometimes it rubs people the wrong way but then again sometimes people should hear things that they do not want to.

No-one is offended or hurt by your opinion. However, that’s not the way ILGM chooses to do things. You’re happy to stay and enjoy the community, lots of good knowledge sharing, or you can move on. No one is hurt either way. However, since you’re on an ILGM paid for site, you might want to be a little more respectful

If I owned a ford dealership, I wouldn’t allow Chevrolet marketing on my web site. Quit complaining and enjoy the forum or not, this is a place to learn and share and you offered neither :love_you_gesture:

But a contest isn’t supposed to just be marketing, otherwise it isn’t much of a contest. There is supposed to be a competition aspect.

Basically it’s like a Ford dealership creating a contest for the best car made every year but then rigging the contest so that only Ford vehicles can win. Which makes it impossible for anyone to know how well Ford compares against anyone else.

Thing is too that the person growing it is just as big of a factor as the genetics, so even if another breeders strain wins that doesn’t mean the genetics are inherently better than ILGM genetics. It also would be expected that the results of the contest would tend to be biased in ILGMs favor but if they at least let outsiders compete and honored them if they truly won I think that would actually make me more trusting of ILGM. In my mind, the best cannabis breeders should not be afraid to openly compete against other breeders. And if they are afraid to do so then I have to wonder why.

Really I never came here for seeds I only came here for the forum. The only reason I considered buying ILGM seeds is because of this forum. I imagine a large fraction of ILGMs sales are a direct or indirect result of people coming onto the forum looking for grow advice. Maybe I will get some ILGM seeds someday but a rigged contest isn’t very persuasive. I’m saying if your contests were more open then they would actually mean something. Otherwise it just shows which of ILGMs strains usually perform best which in theory ILGM should already know. Also of course it shows who is the best at growing, although only within the ILGM sphere as outsiders are prohibited.

Usually i find people in the cannabis world to embrace sharing and opennness, just doing everything we can for the love of the plant. After all, that is what cannabis teaches all of us, as cannabis freely shares its love with us. That’s why I was surprised a site named I Love Growing Marijuana would approach a contest this way. It doesnt sound like it is primarily a business, it sounds like people just doing what they love and wanting to have great experiences with others.

I appreciate everyone’s opinion, but I’ve been involved in helping run a small private forum. It didn’t require large amounts of server space, relatively speaking. But it can get very expensive, very quickly. I have no idea how much it cost to run this forum. But I’m guessing it’s running into 10’s of thousands of dollars a month or more. One more thing to consider, I’ve had several journals on this forum, for several years, I can still go back and see journals from 5 years ago. I understand your frustration, but you should consider how many people have literally learned how to grow cannabis on this forum, myself included :+1:

It all depends on the rules and the goals of the contest. Here, the contest is specifically to reward and thank ILGM’s customers. So it’s normal that it needs to be their genetics entered. They didn’t say they were “competing” to be the best in the world, they only said that this is to show off their genetics, the growers who grow them and to have a way to reward people who buy their seeds. Nothing more.

You want to make this contest an “international” affair, but this was never what it was meant to be.
If you search the forum carefully, you might come across a small contest that the moderators did called : Best flowers or most beautiful flowers, something along those lines I can’t remember rn. And that contest was open for everyone regardless of the provenance of the genetics…
