Sterile fine tip trimmers I use, and as close to the stem as possible, but wait until you have a nice stalk between node 5 and 6 need to leave a nice chunk of stem so it doesn’t split from training or weight.
@kaptain3d I’m learning and trying to help teach while doing so if you see anything I’ve said that’s wrong please correct me asap. And appreciate you and @MeEasy for all the wisdom y’all are giving me. Will definitely pass it on to anyone wanting to learn it.
Ok brother, I’ve completed the flush on all 4. 2 I did 2 days ago and 2 yesterday. So I flushed with 6.5 water slowly like you said. I checked run off for the first time in my life. So they all ranged 6.3-6.6. So the weather here hasn’t been real great. Not much sun and low 70’s at best. Plants maybe show a very slight improvement. Here comes the questions - so when they get feather light, if not much improvement, should I flush again or just normal drench? I’m a little nervous about using Jack’s again and I’d guess I wait until they look healthier, if they ever do and maybe try half strength? So I’m going to add a little molasses in cause I see some pinholes like @Budbrother suggested. So when should I do that? Looking back, after all you’ve guys have taught me, I think several things were at play here. Overwatering, possible nitrogen burn, maybe root bound like you said, and I had the damn pots on the ground instead of on a riser. I have them on pallets now.
I guess time will tell but if they still look shitty next week I’ll start over
Nah man, dont let em go.. doesnt take much to correct.. when feather light, (you can mix your water and molasses together) give each plant a few cups and walk away. Come back ten min later and do the same.. walk away. Then come back and water slowly till you get a touch of runoff.. dont worry about ph since youre in range now. Give her a week and watch new growth.
I gave mine a tea last week and i still havent watered..
Ok brother, you’ve laid out a plan for me
Thank you
Watering tomorrow. Question - just do good PH water and molasses or should I mix a light dose of jacks in too since they haven’t had any?
Id feed
Updating you guys that took the time to help me. These maybe dont look the greatest, but I’m looking back to where I was.and a big improvement. Still a long ways to go, but on the right track. These are all Autos. So I was ready to trash the grow as everyone knows. But you all said don’t give up. So I didn’t. Things I learned - wait until the pots are feather light and then drench, the molasses has helped a lot, and I got them off the ground for circulation so the roots could dry, check water PH in and the runoff. I might start a new grow soon so I’ll use all of this and get it right from the beginning
I grow these outside but it sure has been a struggle with the weather. We had 4 straight days of no sun so I moved em in for a few days of light. It rained for 3 days straight. Now today is the 4th straight day in the 90’s. And there’s always the bugs. I do see why most of you grow indoors. One question - I’m using Jack’s. Should I feed every watering or throw in straight water now and again.
Thanks for all of the help and encouragement. I know these plants aren’t that great but I’ll post an update in a few weeks
Are you feeding full strength of jacks?
Yessir, just started doing that. 1 feeding so far
Have you wanted to run off and are you able to check the pH and ppm readings? Sorry if I’ve asked B4 just faster to ask again
Yeah I watered to run off(another thing I learned). I just check the PH of the run off. Was 6.3
That’s the sweet spot in pH for soil, were you able to check ppm or EC?
So if I was over feeding would the PH be high or low?
Neither, your pH in both water and soil is what unlock and locks the roots from taking the nutrients into the plant.
I’m not even real sure what PPM is or how to check it? Hell I just learned to check PH haha
It’s ok don’t get excited… Only saying bc when I was learning about pH and ppm I was super excited like I was doing something wrong ..
In easy to understand words. How it was explained to me.
Ppm, parts per million, in your water .. how much feed is in your water before you give it to the plants, then you catch some after it’s been draining from the bottom for a short while, and the numbers should be close to each other.
Example, I feed and pH my water to pH 6.5, and ppm 1000. Then water, wait until I have run off, if I’ve used a gallon I want about 1/4 gallon to come threw the bottom, only testing the last 1/8 of the draining water. The pH and ppm should come out in the ranges of 6.2-6.5ph and 700-1000 ppm in my experience.
After that it’s learning to read and listen to the plant to know her needs, also we are here to help along the way.
I hope this is understandable ![]()
Yeah I understand. Mostly. Which is amazing so you explained well. So you just measure the last 1/8? How do you do that and what are you measuring your PPM with?
