Hello groovy peoples. As you can see this is a rectangular planter. It holds 6 gallons of dirt. Into this planter I planted 3 seeds, autos, evenly spaced. Of course I usually grow cannabis in round containers like people do who are normal. So… have I done wrong? Was this foolish? Have I effed up? Am I in error? Is this a colossal blunder? Will I be sorry later? Is my life ruined? Will I find true happiness?

I think it really depends on what YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH. If your looking to grow three giant plants then yes you probably will run into troubles if you keep them in that container.
You always have the salvation of a transplant too if you think your life is ruined

Hahaha! What I would say is you run the risk of A: having issues with one plant and need extra TLC that this pot might prevent. Phenotypes of the same strain will uptake nutrients differently etc. B: One plant stealing the others’ nutes and space. They will grow roots into each other and you won’t be able to disentangle them and being autos you want to leave them alone.

Autos though. You might be fine. I’ve had autos grow a foot. Same strain?

Ive actually heard arguments on both side of this issue
@Niala actually has a good thread where he did this and @Hogmaster actually has a couple skywalkers he potted together going eight now
Basically my understanding is this with proper fungi and microbiology in grow medium
The plants will actually send out sigles between each other almost like a internet for plants
I am still trying to get a poper understanding
Hopefully Al sees this he can explain better

If they where planted together like that out side I could see but, in a planter gonna run outta root room let alone have an internet if you will so I think that is irrelevant? They always say the BIGGER the roots the BIGGER the plants the BIGGER THE BUDS!!!

But to each their own
it’s only irrelevant if you dont have the proper microbiology in soil since with out it its just dirt
As far as transplanting them that will be a issue and should have been potted in forever homes
As stated hopefully @Niala see tag and responds he has a degree in the area and can explain it more in detail

Well that is a happy frog answer for sure! But thought we where on the topic of a rectangular planter, wouldn’t be afraid to use them just not for multipul plants not even the same strain each plant should have own home "planter"

That i can agree on as far as same strain in the planters
But as i tried to explain there is a science based reason for doing this even in planters
Planters do need to be sized proper
If the intention of planting them together wasnt on my line of logic then no reason to do it and they should be separated asap before roots become tangled and bound @Lessismore

Thanks every bodys. These are 3 autos. Blueberry autos from ILGM. I imagine that this is their permanent home as I have grown to understand autos don’t like being transplanted. So. We’ll see what happens in this box, just for kicks.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with co-planting autos of the same strain together, as long as the pot is big enough. I wouldn’t put photos in there because they could get root bound. Cloth pots can’t ever get root bound because the rootlets grow through the cloth and air prune. But they need to sit on a grate or something. On the ground, they can grow down into the dirt.

I grow peppers on the patio in two similar but larger boxes. They do fine.
I could see the potential for feeding differences be somewhat of an issue. It happens all the time with plants of same strain in different pots.

My first grow ever, I had 6 photo plants (flipped at 28 days) & 3 2-gal pots. They shared. Sharings pots was never an issue. Oh, there were several million issues, but 2 plants in one pot was never one of them.
Looking at my autos, now, though, I’d never dream of doing 3 in one. I’m growing indoors, and they’re all crazy big.
They’ll probably just grow like goldfish.

So. Just for fun. Here’s me 3 autos in the rectangle at 6 weeks. They seem to like each other. Blueberries. And the blueberries from ILGM seem particularly robust. I got 3 here plus 3 in normal round containers.
