A question about Bud Rot

Goodmorning… Does anyone know if you can reuse your soil from a plant infected with bud rot? It got me again this year. I have another plant that’s about 41 days and flowering. I’m real close to throwing out the whole lot and grow 1 or 2 autos at the end of sept. I and a lot of you also have had to deal with this problem. I do know one thing that unless you have a greenhouse outside your chances of getting this are less than if you don’t. We had a unbelievable downpour last week and I wasn’t going out to cover them because I wasn’t feeling good enough to deal with them. I just said the hell with it, whatever happens, happens . I’ve spent enough time and money on a inferior product anyway. I will never grow outside in the summer down in the bowels of the country. At least in the winter you have half a chance. The poor little lizards don’t even like it. I been here 23 yrs and (and my last)never experienced temps like this… I could probably salvage some of the parts but this pot stinks and taste like crap. Tea leaves is better. Although the buzz is about an 8. The taste and smell is at best is -1 to -2. So to me the soil is worth more than the funk that was growing in it.

@madhatter1 That’s a iffy iffy if you do i would take couple inches off the top after cutting down and get it away from plant and go with it

Thats a good idea. I saw if you sterilize it at 180 that works. But I’m going to plant a tree in the back yard and I’ll just add that to the hole. It’s only 2- 5 gal pots anyway. I think I’m done growing pot until I move next year. Maybe 1 auto in Oct if anything. It’s just too hot growing down here :+1:

Man sorry to hear that. Was it the heat or the humidity? What were your temps like…?..how many heatwave days? whats your RH there?.

Im using soil that had some bud rot plants in it. I re-ammend and i give it a good pre soak with some aloe flakes and innoculate it. Seems good. Guess ill find out in a couple more months…
The plants had minor bud rot though. I kept trimming it out and didnt lose a bunch. But there was some bud rot. I compost my soil over the winter as well.

Ive been wanting to do that since every year I spend so much on new soil ( HF and Mother natures coco) I’m running out of spaces to throw it…I wanna re-use it but Ive heard so much about the soil possibly containing over wintering insects etc… sounds like your doing what you stated would take care of it…I know farmers cover their drops with black plastic and the sun kills any pathogens and over wintering insects so???

I removed a bunch of the top layer of soil this year in my greenhouse. Then I fogged the whole greenhouse with hypochlorous acid. I fogged it a couple times over a week or so. Bud rot is a PITA for sure but if you carefully remove it and spray with peroxide its possible to salvage a lot. I had a plant one year that got bud rot around week 4 or 5 of flowering I removed a bunch of buds and some entire branches and colas. I was super careful not to spread it all over the plant or cross contaminate my other plants. I sprayed peroxcide as often as I thought it could handle. Saved better than 75% of that plant.

Morning @AL_GREEN The temps this yr are off the charts. I been here 23. yrs and I never experienced it like this before. The past 2 months have been extremely hot, The real feel has been between 105 to 120. Humidity throughout the evening and morning are mid 80’s. It;ll die down to 50’s and 60’s in mid afternoon then right back up again.
So what caused it this time was a long heavy downpour. Wasn’t able to cover them and I knew it would happen .The buds were big and heavy. They held the water and the rot was inevitable. I really don’t care because the smell of this strain stunk like hell. I figured I do somethin else with it instead of smoking it. So in the dumpster it went. I’ll do 1 auto in Oct and that should turn out OK. I’m mostly pissed of all the time and care I gave em for 0 gain. I been monitoring the weather where I’m moving too. It’ll be perfect for outside growing. :+1:

@AL_GREEN I guarantee you cover anything down here with black plastic and it’ll be dead in a few days.

So do you dilute it or use it at full strength? I have another plant with big buds that has the rot also. Theres so many little areas that have it. If it smelled better I try and save it but now I don’t have to deal with it. I think the idea of covering the soil with black plastic like @AL_GREEN mentioned would work also but since it’s such a small amount I’m not going to sweat over it. I think my patient level has dwindled as I got older. That is a really nice setup you have with your greenhouse. I.ve looked at it several times. Grow on bro. :+1:

That’s a good suggestion @W.B.elpaso I never heard of that one before. I appreciate all the feedback from you and @AL_GREEN @plumbdand @Reed71 Onward and upward right. :sunglasses:

I used a 50/50 water to peroxide mix at first to kill any mold that was active. Then went to a little less peroxide like 25% peroxide 75% water. Using regular 3% peroxide.

Thanks for that info, good to know… @plumbdand Maybe it’ll help with the smell of this strain.

50/50 peroxide will cause pistils to turn brown and leaves to turn colors so dont freak out.

Cool…Well at least they’ll be squeaky clean…

Had it last year myself. First experience with it. Hideous stuff to deal with. I lost all my big bud crop. Gave the rest of the seeds to a fellow grower with a green house.

I feel your pain and disappointment. I never even knew about it when I grew back in Pa. Never had it. But down here I get it every year. Can’t wait to move outta here. I just built a grow box and put in a nice Bubba Kush. With a constant 80 temp and 50% Rh I should be good this time. And if I get it by some chance I’m done growing and will buy what I need which aint much anymore. Good luck with you future grows. :love_you_gesture:

AH yes Ol Bubba...I love that strain..I only grew the Auto but boy she out did herself..Big plant and full of Trichs..I dont get bud rot but I do get a nasty case of Caterpillars..every Fin year…I really have to watch for them…

Well then your very lucky. It’s a guaranteed down here. You must be living in a low humidity area or you’ve found a way for preventive treatment. I’ve moved Bubba into a homemade box in a spare room to see if I can evade it on this plant. Here’s A link to the box. Homemade Grow Box--1st time trying indoors
It’s been in there for 10 days now.
Best of luck with your grows. :love_you_gesture:

Its mostly a drier humidity… If that makes sense…? The Caters kick my butt tough…So far purecrop1 and BT have helped this year…
Best to you to
