A Noob's 1st Grow Journal

Still can’t get over how much bigger the youngins are compared to the other two twice their age. Nutrients make all of the difference!!

My very first ones were 2 months old the size of 2 week old seedlings lol its amazing what a couple extra holes can do for air exchange/ draining capabilities, any Temps above 85 without supplemental co2 will stop photosynthesis and and close their stomas as well!

Going to try fabric pots and see how it goes. Ordered some from the jungle last week and the order never arrived. Managed to get a refund and hopefully the new order will show up soon. Found grounded outlet timers to automate the lighting schedules and hygrometers that come with lithium ion batteries to replace the meters that i broke by accidentally getting water on the digital screens that display temp + relative humidity

Am so glad that the automatic timers should arrive tomorrow. Had another hectic day with work and the lil babies didn’t get any dark time, plus the big babies night was over an hour late. This is probably the third time it’s happened and i feel bad every time like a negligent parent. Thankfully they still look way better than ever with just that single nutrient dose last week

Finally received the second hygrometer order, since the first two pack was lost in the mail. The numbers are off, and so i just ordered two inline fans and flex duct to help fix that. Found a deal on two packs for both items.

The ironic part is that the lost package from last month finally arrived when the new order did. Now there’s four hygrometers plus ten 7gal ten 5gal and ten 3gal fabric pots. I learned that hygrometers are not waterproof after breaking two a few months ago. The lil babies seemed to be getting too much light, so their nighttime was extended one hour.

Noticed that the humidity is way too high in this one at night, so the fan is on the way

I’m still amazed by the hugh positive difference that the Flora makes in terms of growth. These lil babies actually have color! Pretty soon they’ll be in five gallon fabric pots. Would like to eventually try the high dollar soils like ff, yet this economical organic potting mix from lowes is fine by me for now. Noticed that the temp and rh are a bit off in this tent as well, so may have to experiment with a combination of inline fan plus the existing square heater/fan that feeds the lil lung room

Picked up some stuff to level up my game. Almost ready to situate everything. So far i managed to sanitize the big tent floor and get the buckets off the ground. The fabric pots will probably fair better, yet these plastic $3 bargains will do until this round is through. I can always set a lil block under each one to elevate them and increase air flow once the fans arrive. Next step is to transplant the four lil babies into fabric, sterilize their tent floor, and place the pots on the wire racks. Yes they’re technically for baking yet i liked them better than the other cheap options at lowes or home depot

Found a new lil heater to replace this very loud one that’s been running since last autumn. These bags of potting mix are $8.48 for eight gallons, my kind of price. Although the sand doesn’t do much against the gnats it does help regulate moisture here and prevent mold from growing, so it’s worth the 4.50 considering the value. On another note, anyone who suffers from acid stomach heartburn reflux etc this alkaline water works pretty good to rebalance the body’s pH. Also have to take omeprazole everyday for GERD. Cannabis really helps with digestion and nausea more than anything, with baking soda in close second

Time to play in the soil :hugs:
Made sure to get gloves for a change, to keep the hands clean er. Usually the potting mix gets the cuticles all dirty, and sometimes even washing with hot water and soap isn’t enough. Met a girl recently and want to impress her by not looking as grungy as normal. Most ppl don’t realize how precious water is, considering a one minute shower uses about seven gallons of H2O. All over the earth ppl die from a lack of potable water, and so i I’d rather take a bird bath than waste water with modern conveniences, especially considering i buy all my water from the store and don’t have any plumbing here

Am hoping that the babies love their new homes. Transplanted more gently this time by using gloved hands to scoop down under the root ball and extract the whole schbang into a fabric pot. I applied a generous layer of sand to the bottom and top of each pot plus layered four racks underneath

With smaller plants I run 20/4, bare minimum night time to get their roots moving and back to photosynthesis, I’ve only found that 24/0 brings more stress than benefit. I’ve had a couple instances where flowering plants would receive 1-2 hours extra of light which I’d follow up with 16 hours of darkness to help them keep there florigen…? Built up, as long as it’s not a BIG uh oh they shouldn’t revert back. Through my 3 Grows so far, the only big WTF moments all led to a bad PH meter or cleaning/storing practices for ph. I highly recommend which ever meter you get to get the corresponding calibration solutions pre made, I have found it extremely difficult and frustrating to make them SPOT on every time, and if one thing is off it’ll send you INCREDIBLY wrong ph readings, this is incredibly important in coco if you switch to be SPOT on, this has been the only time I didn’t run into this issue. Spending a little more on your meter with save you tons of stress down the line, I have a Apera ph20 that literally tells me now when it’s time to calibrate lol

Was running 18/6 for the lil babies yet they seem to be doing better with 17/7 in terms of the leaf tips and overall led burn. Finally managed to dial in both automated timers, yet still have to open and close the tents each day plus water/feed as needed. The big babies get about 12/12 leaning more towards an extra hour of night whenever the leaves begin looking hurt

They’re loving the new setup and will definitely be ready for the big tent once the white widow are finished. These are the five gallon fabric pots. Am going to use the three gallon for the seedlings next time and the seven gallon for when these super skunk upgrade to flowering, Lord willing. Pretty soon they’ll have increased air flow/ventilation once the fans arrive

Slowly yet surely it’s all moving forward. Am still winging it and putting things together on the fly :dove:

The first day i tried the auto timers all seemed well until the middle of the night when the flowering tent light came on unexpectedly! I dunno how long it was on yet it’s been several days and they are still growing stronger. The closet tent timer required a power strip because the outlet’s in a tight spot

I believe the main reason why more people don’t grow isn’t so much a legality issue, yet moreso has to do with the complexity of gardening plus a fear of failure/wasted time, money, space, etc.

The greater the risk, the greater the reward. If dispensary’s can grow their own legally and gouge folks with highway robbery pricing, then why can’t medicinal users cultivate their own supplies legally. It’s all about uncle sam getting those tax dollars and regulating everything for the sake of making a profit while on a neverending power trip. Oh well such is life here on planet earth. Am grateful for it even still
