Both started the same day. One is twice the size of the other. 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch respectfully. The cotyledons almost died on the small one.
Going to try putting plastic cup on top of not to increase humidity.
Any tips for the newbie?

Dome is a good idea, keep water away from stem.
Water around edges away from stem, you want wet and dry cycles.
Right on. They’re looking pretty wet in the photos.
Thanks will do. Appreciate it.
Thanks much appreciated.
those rooter pads have an incredible capacity to soak with water, the roots will have a highly saturated environment and no real motivation to spread their roots.
try not to get any water on the pads at all !
You need to address the fungus gnat problem. Catching that many gnats in 1 weeks time suggests to me you have a serious problem. It’s not possible that the gnats came from your current grow since it is a ten day life cycle, the gnats are coming from other plants in your house.
Get yourself some mosquito bites and treat every house in your house. You can buy them in many big box stores. The Amazon link is for reference.
Ok got it thank you
I will get it today thank you
They are both just putting down roots. Some start out stronger then others. Runts have this uncanny ability to catch up and surpass the others most the time. But sometimes a runt stays a runt the entire grow.
Plenty of solid advice above. As a point of reference, i hardly ever water seedlings. Will soak the soil when im soaking seeds. Then normally dont add more water for about a weekish. Since their roots arent developed well, they pull most the water out of the air (thus thr done suggestions). And when u do water again, the making a circle around the plants edges works like a champ getting those roots to wander outwards.
I figured that’s where I went wrong. Thank you.
If I back off on the water will they be able to catch up?
I put plastic cups over them to increase the humidity I hope that helps.
Thanks again.
Yup give em a couple of days. Let that soil dry out a good bit and when you add more, be slightly stingy with it
Should be some good times.
The cup domes is a good idea. We lost my first seedling because wife forgot to go upstairs and check on them when I went out of town on short business trip. I came back had only one survivor. The others withered and died without water. The one survivor was a weirdo. Didn’t even look like a pot plant and stayed stunted for weeks. Then one day she started growing. This lady now has the nicest baby buds in the garden.
So I bought the Bergman Plant Foods.
When should I be using it ?
Stage 1 Seedling Booster
They are @10 days old now.
Found my gnat problem. Was a leaking water pipe in an unfinished part of the basement. The soil underneath it was saturated. Replaced the pipe, treated the soil with the product you recommended and haven’t seen any activity in a day or so.
Thanks.
Glad you found the leaky pipe, that could have turned into more serious problem than a few fungus gnats
I don’t personally feed seedlings. They come with cotyledons that can handle them for the first couple weeks then the root system/soil get the job done. Only exception being coco/hydro/soilless medias. Those need feed from days 1.
But if u decide to feed, start at the low end of the scale. Maybe 1/4 of whatever is recommended. And make sure it is pH’d properly
I kind of felt the same about that. I did feed the runt seedling where the cotyledons were dying.
Left the other one alone. Both are moving along nicely I think. Thanks.
