4x8 SoG grow journal

I recently filled my 4x8 and figured I’d start a grow journal to keep track of my progress. My goal was to fill the tent with enough plants to achieve SoG without using a screen (pain in my ass come harvest time). I halved the tent into 2 4x4 sections, with a 3x3 of 3 gal pots in each half. The first batch was started around 11/31/22, and the second around 12/26/22.

Genetics:
7x random seed packs (here and here)
2x UnderCaker from Darkhorse
1x Halitosis from Covert
2x Karen’s Breath from Covert
1x Orange Cookies Chem BX from Freeworld Genetics
1x Durban Poison
1x Afghan
1x GDP
1x Mango
1x Runtz

In addition, I have a 2x5 with an Earthbox running another Cookies Chem, a 3 gal and a few clones finishing up in the gaps.

Lighting:
1x DIY 520W LED (4x65W + 2x130W) and 1x 250W Bloom Plus XP2500 over the ‘older’ 4x4.
1x 600W HLG RSpec over the ‘younger’ 4x4.

Ventilation:
1x filtered 8" intake fan
1x AC intake (fan only for now)
1x 6" exhaust

I run Home Assistant to tie a bunch of sensors together and to control lighting and my irrigation pump. Temps are about right but humidity is starting to climb above 60%, time to start the dehumidifier.

Feeding:
18 pots @ 3gals each = 54 gals of amended soil. Watering about 10gals every 2 days (pump runs for 16mins), 10/54 = 18% water/soil ratio. Have to top up the thirsty plants to avoid over-watering the others.

Feeding with Jack’s 321 @ 800 PPM pH’d to 6.0 every 2nd watering.
Tried DutchPro following instructions but got some leaf burn on 2 plants so stopped.
Also supplementing molasses, humic acid, powered aloe vera, and powered coconut once every 2 weeks.
Will continue CalCarb foliar through stretch then quit at bud set.

Trimming will indeed suck . I started the first 9 plants in batches of 3, each 10 days apart to hopefully spread out the harvest and trimming. I had to start 2nd batch of 9 together due to a tent shuffle. Getting to the plants in the back for cropping requires a unique combination of hot yoga and a game of Twister

Found one more male after flipping to flower, good thing I caught it and had a spare female to swap out.

I was looking forward to a 100% sativa

Gave them a defol before they start to stretch, before:

after:

Buds looking good on this UnderCaker, almost week 4

I found a plant in ‘round 2’ growing early nanners

not sure what caused the stress, but it was quite the adventure chopping and getting it out the tent. The rest are looking a bit disheveled

My Orange Cookies Chem in the EarthBox is done well, day 51

‘Round 3’ on day 14

still have some stretch in them hopefully

Sorry about the nanners. The rest look good.

The second round in the 4x8 has stretched nicely - just about as much as I was hoping for (all except 1 runt in the corner). I added a screen, based on lessons learned with the SoG in the other half of the tent. They have been thirsty, still sticking with Jack’s @ 800 PPM for now. They’re looking happy, preying nicely, so I’m not messing with feeding. I lowered the 600 Rspec output, I was reading 1400 PPFD at the canopy, now reading 1100.

This older half has needed some work. After chopping the nanner’d plant the others started falling over each other. A screen or two would have helped, but I wanted the flexibility to harvest a plant at a time as they finish up. I went under the canopy and bound branches of several plants to keep them together and pointing up.

Some bud shots:

4x8 full! :metal:

Chopped my Orange Cookie Chem in an Earthbox+water. Tonight I saw enough amber to call it. She made 72 days :smiling_face_with_tear:

In the 4x8 I’ve harvested 4 plants so far from the 9 older ones, other approaching completion soon. Plant stability became an issue with holes in the SoG. I used bamboo and wire to prop up leaning limbs.

The other half of the 4x8 has 8 plants at day 35 of flower. I had canopy uniformity issues but got it leveled out with some supercropping.

busy busy… I’m taking a break when these are done.

Been awhile but I thought I’d wrap this journal up after harvesting on Saturday. They made 74 days.
