That and touching buds. Enviro will play a part. Sometimes theyâre drying too fast and need to be bucked and bagged.
If stems snap they are likely too dry for a paper bag. If you squeeze a bud you will feel give, maybe even moisture. The outside will feel dry, maybe even crispy in places. Taking them out and spreading them is fine, donât bag them too wet.
I like to pull a top fan leaf that you canât see the petiole. If it pulls free easily it doesnât matter stems. I put them in the paper bag.
Yes, TBT, âdryâ to the touch is more like âno longer cool if touchedâ.
Still canât cook steak using touch method.
If you bag too early, the RH will rise (you found).
A fan passing the air around or in front of the bag would dry faster.
We want slower dry, so back to hang or tray or bigger bags with less weed.
Good problem to have if you get it right.
Did you wash the harvest?
Takes longer to dry, so I hang smaller 3-5 inch pieces.
Agreed. If nothing else, if you see rh creeping to 80% when you bag or jar them take them back out for a little while and try again later.
These felt dry to the touch when i got home and they were hanging. You could tell it wasnât dry but definitely getting there. 20 minutes in those bags and they will stick to anything that even loos at them lol. They definitely spit out some moisture in there. Lung room has been staying around 55%.
I did not. Weve been talking about how i need to start though.
Squeeze tests over time will help train yourself to determine. Can be tricky to understand, until you do. Dry is hard to squeeze or crumbles, internally wet feels dry but has some squish. Cure should be firm with a small amount of movement. If that even makes sense. Low humidity drying can be tricky and can turn the outside crisp pretty fast, fans on buds can make them dry on the outside pretty fast.
Lot of variables lol. Im thinking just leave them in those pans till tomorrow evening. Ill move them around in the morning. Shouldnât have cut them loose . Rookie mistake.
Nah, it happens man. I rarely get a perfect dry/cure. Kinda at the mercy of environment and available time.
It does once you know that feeling. Trial and error and judging by jar buds.
And the reason why I bring up petiolâs is because the way they dry. Itâs like a pop-up turkey thermometer to me.
Iâm gonna have to pay attention to that. I usually strip all fans that have visible stems prior to hang⊠But I usually have to hang for 10-16 days. With whole plants.
Iâll try and remember that trick. Thanks @Budbrother
Hey man whats a
Asking for friend .
I thought you said pistols till i read it again and couldnât figure out what the pic was.
Is that just the stem of a fan leaf?
@Low usually those are the first thing i take off too.
Same. One of the top sugar fans pulls free
Yup
Im learning some new words tonight
Donât have to know em to grow em but it helps.
Get you a lumber moisture tester from lowes. It has two prongs you stick into a bud and it tells you the % of moisture in it. 11-12% is what your looking for, that will be right on 62% rh in a jar for curing. Hang them whole with fans trimmed or wet trimmed and the meter will tell you exactly when to cut buds off for jarring. I still burp them for a couple weeks to let chlorophyll to gas off, even if rh is perfect.
Well i didnât know that was a thing! I like little gadgets lol
Pretty cool and takes the guesswork out of use it to learn what dried bud feels like. I got more gadgets than McGuyver.
