That was really informative, thanks @garrigan62 I’ve never seen it explained like that before ,all the threads I’ve read about is it ready yet, tells them to get a jewellers loupe and check the trichomes and when they are all amber they are ready,so thanks brother for that explanation
That looks like it would be a good daytime smoke if you took it right now. I agree that you are over 20%.
Nice picture clarity! I haven’t figured out how to get the amber to show well. It always resembles the clear trichomes in my photos.
Great job…
Seeing the amber has been a project. I’m now using a DSLR camera with a 100mm macro lens and an external flash. Then I put the image in Photoshop and zoom in as needed. I exaggerate the color by upping the “saturation” and the “vibrance”. These effects won’t change a clear trichome to amber, but it makes the colors stand out more. Maybe the bud looks a little better than real life.
I have harvested each bud as it begins to show amber, but the lower buds are still white. The poor plant looks like Frankenstein’s monster with so much of it hacked off, but the lower buds show no amber and I’m hoping they will turn. This seems like an inevitable condition when people harvest a whole plant. No way are all the buds going to turn at once (unless you have done such an effective SOG that EVERY bud is the same height). Otherwise, if you harvest a whole plant when the top buds look like my photo, most of the buds are not going to be showing amber at all.
To bob31, I’m not sure what I want. This is my first grow and I haven’t smoked pot since 1975. I gave it up because it just made me feel anxious. Now it’s legal in California! I have smoked some of this grow and it seems energizing in a good way. I borrowed some commercial “sleepy time” and it seemed about the same, but maybe not as strong. I’m wondering if the differences between couch lock and uplifting are somewhat subtle to someone not trained to appreciate subtleties, or to someone for whom one hit of modern weed is stoned enough. I imagine that, if I got REALLY loaded, the differences might be more apparent.
If you wait until the most mature buds are mostly amber and take the whole plant, you will end up with buds at different stages of maturity.
Sort the buds by maturity level and you will find that you have range of smoke from a wake-n-bake to a good night stone. You will figure out for yourself what is best for you since we all have different preferences.
So much to learn so little time…
