Im like a kid waiting for christmas. The grape ape is swelling up real nice. The bay 11 is behind by a couple of weeks. But the smell! Damn!
Is the smell picking up? Hows the stickiness of the buds? I should grab a few auto seeds to experiment with. All i have a photoperiod… .
The grape ape has to come down next week. Its tired. The buds are completely covered in crystals. The sugar leaves are not covered. I think that is the big difference with really strong strains. The sugar leaves were covered with the Girl Scout Cookies. But as long as the buds are covered pretty good, then it doesnt matter too much i guess. The Bay 11 still has a bunch of swelling to go, so im going to have to start the grape apes drying in the closet next weekend. There is not much amber trichomes, but there is also very few clear trichomes, so i think im ok with taking it down. Anyway that would be week 19.
19 weeks is a long time. Strange that the trichomes are clear still. Is there alot of cloudy?
Its all cloudy. There are very few clear ones. Its like they are all at the same stage. That happened last time too. Thats why i wonder what triggers the trichomes to mature and turn amber? It doesnt seem like its the age of the trichome as much as its the maturity of the flower.
The light… the light and oxygen is what decays THC into CBD… oxygen is actually a volatile gas. It causes oxidation. Like when you cut an apple in half, after awhile it turns brown. Samething with trichomes…this is my theory at least…
The thing is that they have gotten almost 2.5 times more light than plants grown under 12/12, and nary an amber trichome exists.
Absolutely.
This plant could benefit immensly.
She is older than Feb 2023, reveged in May 2023, and on 11/1/23 removed from outdoor torturing with rain and wind. Immature bush trimmed for weeks, PNW hostile Oct/Nov.
LSS, If she re-veges, and re-flowers, I would love to double your routine.
My winter indoor is only good Oct thru May.
Working on developing yard for outdoor grow.
@Labweed Thank you,
As the late, great, Gallagher said, “I don’t experiment, I’m into full scale research!”.
I have followed this post since first being eye caught.
The extended cycle initially concerned me, more so as to how could I adapt to that schedule. I have five ILGM seedling and some clones in the tent, currently.
The clones and re-vegers take second to the seedlings (priority).
I don’t want to harm the seedlings, but ponder, would they be happy with extended ON (+24) with OFF (< 12)?
@Labweed Your vote?
My year of growing is recorded and shared with forum contributors.
I am a better reader, than typist or grower, so far.
I think your reveg would work just fine with that plant. It has a lot of leaves left. I feel like people treat these plants as brittle, but they are tough MF’ers. 24 hours of light. Do some topping to bush it out, then switch it to whatever light cycle you wish. If you saw the very first posts on here, you saw that some were saying 16/12 wouldnt flower. However i was already 8 weeks into flower when that was said. All these plants need is 12 hours of darkness per “day”. Now i can say definitively that this just changes the way the plant grows buds. I cant really capture it in pictures, but it is different. I might keep the bay 11’s going for several more weeks because it is still fairly healthy. But those buds are hard as granite, and they have barely started swelling. So we train these things to spread out and turn each branch into its own cola. Well my colas are not one cola. They are a collection of individual colas. I think if they were not so old and probably rootbound, these colas would be 6 to 8 inches wide. This is a concept that is meant for hydro or aero. I have to do that next time, but i need help studying this. I have been begging people to try this because i really believe it is worth it. If i get the right equipment, i bet i can create something that will look like a genetic mutation in how absurdly huge it would be. Maybe ill have to experiment in silence until i make that Frankenstein monster that i know i can create.
So upon further investigation, what i am talking about as a cola full of colas is kind of considered foxtailing. This is usually considered undesirable, unless it maintains a conical shape. Mine are maintaining a conical shape, so maybe we can call this controlled foxtailing? This is normally from light or heat stress. Its undesirable because it makes the buds more airy. But mine are anything but airy. These are a tight cluster of foxtails, where none are bigger or more elongated than any other. And they are also not thin strings of calyxes that jut out further than the others. Makes things a little interesting.
Either way, I joined the 23/13 schedule.
My tent is empty of harvestable flowers but filled with candidates.
Clones, seedlings, and revegers all should benefit at this point.
Heat restrictions, not a problem now. 600+watts LEDs from HLG.
The tent was flipped on 11/1/23 from 12/12 to 18/6 and now 23/13 (second time increase). Clones, re-vegers, or flowering plants are producing new green, maybe flower(?) Some new white pistils (a few) are positive indications.
New green growth has been appearing as I did the first flip.
20-30 inches of vacant canopy available for anybody.
Anything else for sharing?
23/13 may make it start flowering. New growth could be pre-flower stretch.
All good to me, we shall see.
Cloner stoner or stoner cloner or both.
Keep me posted. I want to see how an even longer day does.
Whats the most you ever grew under 600+ watts? I am using HLG also. I like their lights and the Quantum Boards. I am running 2 HLG Rspec FRs, the 320 watt and 700 watt in a 4×4×7½’ I purchased these because i liked the metal frames and the reflectors on them. I have their Rspec 300 and 200 also for a future veg tent i am going to put up. Whch HLGs do you have and have you used other brands ?
Didn’t want to try HPS/MHL as I did in the 1980’s.
New convert to HLG and quality lighting.
Already converted to AC-Infinity products for growing management.
Thought bargain lights were the plan
IMD, that was before finding forum and unlimited USA web access.
Discarded junk lights, may be needed for heat.
Prior tent lighting with 350 was aborted for Disney trip in May.
Restarted indoor grow in Aug, still too hot, my indoors.
First grow under HLG 350R, 260D-Kit, and UVA-30, was doing good at 24inches and 50% lighting (heat constrictions on Lung room, not tent grow, under HLG’s) .
Dropped to 15 inches and killed flower growth, more likely with the cutting for smoke testing routine than lights, but coupled with 10/14 light reduction, all good-looking growth ceased.
HLG lights run almost too cool, an I use the dehumidifier used to ADD temp or control humidity (Night humidity can climb). to grow tent and lung room.
Growing for lessons learned AND sharing with forum contributors, as priority., is contra-indicative for harvesting, at this time.
Seeds, seedlings, clones, and re-veg concepts and practices being developed or refined and shared.
Quality seeds arriving, again, soon. Been using My seeds or re-vegers, until 11/1/2023. Bastardized grow tent with re-vegers, clones, and seedlings.
23/13 being tested for rejection/acceptance.
Pretty interesting story… I’m curious about the UVA lighting. I’ve read good things about this but heard its not nessassary?
My life, major motion pictures, might do justice, all true, but unbelievable.
We are definitely different writers. I drone on with too much detail, and you bullet point the shit out of it. Hit the main points and peace out. I get a kick out of it. You getting more stretch out of the 23/13?
Sounds familiar… my life should be a movie on what not to do in life…lol
