Hey guys! I’m new here and I’m in the middle of my first outdoor grow. I’m using ILGM feminized seeds and Bergman 4 step fertilizer for nutrients. I started off this grow behind schedule right from the get go but everything seemed to be going good. My plants continued to grow after a few minor hiccups, and everything seemed on track. I mixed my own soil using organic seed starter soil, perlite, and earthworm castings. Unfortunately one of my early problems was overwatering and drainage, so I decided to add lava rock to the bottom of my grow bags in order to help with that issue. I only did this with a few plants so luckily it’s not affecting my entire crop. However a few of the plants that I did use them in have stayed considerably more wet, and even with holding off watering,
they still seem to stay somewhat moist. This is what I believe my problem is, but Obviously I’m a newbie grower and am looking to anyone with some experience to help. I’m going to attach some pictures in order to show exactly what I’m talking about. These plants seem to have more of a yellowish leaf on them and they have slowed down growth considerably. I’m trying to find out if it’s something I’m doing wrong as far as watering, nutrients, soil base, etc. I have kept the PH level of my water at 6.0 the entire grow so I don’t believe this is the problem. I have added the nutrients once a week as directed so I also don’t think that is the problem either. Am I overwatering these plants? Over fertilizing? Are they missing something like cal/mag? Please help! I don’t want to pull these 2-3 out of my crop but at a certain point I might have to because they are just taking up room and not really growing or looking good anymore. Thanks to anyone that can help me figure this out!

Are they in a greenhouse outside? How
much direct sunlight are they getting? From the look of your pics, I would guess that they have a nitrogen deficiency given the overall yellow leaves. I asked about the sunlight because you have a decent amount of space between the nodes which could mean they want a bit more light. That being said, your plants overall look pretty good other than the yellowing leaves. How often are you feeding? And how old are the plants?

They look hungry. I doubt over watering is the issue outdoors. I like top dressing with dry fertilizer. I use fox farm fruit and flower 4-9-3 myself.

I would also say that I’m regards to watering, I usually just stick my forefinger into the soil. If it’s dry up to my knuckle, then I water. Otherwise, I don’t. When I water, I soak the soil until water is coming out of the sides of the fabric pot. It works out to about every 3-4 days here in central VA (hot and humid now). I feed once a week, full-strength Bergman’s per their chart.

Yes they are in an outdoor greenhouse and I water by hand so over watering definitely isn’t off the table. I have been using a soil tester for the most part to let me know whether or not it’s time to water that particular plant. It seems like some of the plants are requiring more water so I feed/water accordingly. The light situation isn’t great but they are definitely getting a good 6-8 hours of direct sun before I loose it behind some tall trees. What’s throwing me off is that most of the plants seem to be doing well in the conditions. I just checked the soil PH level after reading up all day on this and for the problem plants the soil PH is on the high side @7.0-7.5. Perhaps this is the problem? Other than that I’m basically finishing up with the veg nutrients I purchased from the site and I’ll be moving on to the flowering stage. I’ll include a picture of the them for number reference.

The one plant outside the greenhouse is definitely the worst I have in the group. There is one or two more that have grown better but have seemed to plateau off and turn yellowish. Thanks you for the feedback y’all it is very much appreciated
Welcome aboard! I can’t help with the nutes much, but I can tell you that when those baby flower, they will outgrow that tent by a mile. They don’t get quite enough light and the heat can get a little excessive making for a huge stretch and fluffy buds. If possible, I recommend putting them directly outside.

Thanks! There’s two reasons why I have been using the tent. One is I live in the northeast, Rhode Island to be exact, and we have gotten a ton of rain this year and I had trouble the first time I tried a plant outside and it never grew right. I assumed it was because of the rain water not being in the PH range and not being able to control how much water it got. This may be very dumb, I just don’t know any better yet! The other reason for the tent is my neighbors and people that come over unexpectedly. I planned to bring them out as much as possible during the month of August/September when most of the flowering will happen. I’ll definitely aim at getting them out in the open as much as possible going forward
Does anyone think I should change the nuets to a more nitrogen heavy next feed for the plants I’m having the issues with? I can easily feed them separately and if a nitrogen deficiency is the problem that would help I assume? Any thoughts
