ZenMaries 1st grow round

@JaneQP you are awesome! I happen to have some citric acid, I haven’t heard of the silicon solution so I will have to google/search through forum for that. This makes me happy to hear. Do you do organic growing?

@Graysin niiice! Amazon basics it is for my fans and I am gonna look up the lens… I am honestly shocked to hear that I won’t need to buy a lux meter. I was bracing myself for that purchase. Ty!!!

@Tylersays I am very excited! I am so sorry, I hope that your light finds its way to you safe and sound. Speaking of lights, my lights will ultimately be what I am waiting for to start my grow. Since I changed my mind at the last minute about upgrading from the reg 260 to the 260 xl, I have to wait for the first one I ordered to get here, then send it back to HLG, and then they will send me the XL. Their customer service is amazing, BTW. Saweeeet, thanks so much for the link. I am gonna have to use tap water that has sat out for 48+ hours. Our water literally smells like bleach straight outta the tap. :smirk: I will go ahead and get some just to be safe.

I have both the small 6" fans and tower. The tower is best out side the tent for me. I use the small fans inside like the others. What is the ppm for your water? Mine is really hard. 535ppm and un usable by it self to grow. I have to dilute it with ro to use it. RO units are cheap also if you find you need to go that rout.

I use 6in desk fan from Walmart and have them hanging in the pole. Also have 9in one in the floor of the big tent blowing up

@ZenMarie . I did switch from salt nutrients to organic with top dressing to living soil with Earthdust. It has been a progression to find what works best for me.

Let me tag @MeEasy with the silicon product he uses.

Thank you @JaneQP for the tag, hi @ZenMarie I also use ascorbic acid powder (vitamin C) , potassium silicate from kisorganics for additional silicate in my grow and a little aloe vera. I’m trying a run now without using the potassium and aloe just to see if I notice a difference but I use the ascorbic acid powder to neutralize the chloramine in my tap water

Ohhhh @MeEasy you had me at aloe. What are you using it for? I am assuming the same thing that I use it for, rooting hormones? I use it for rooting my other plants and didn’t even think about it for MJ yet. Totally awesome, ty for this info.!

@JaneQP I don’t have any idea what any of that is, but I’m gonna follow you to find out results bc it sounds like something I would be into once I get the basics downs.

@SilvaBack203 look at you! Your set up looks pristine and your beautiful plants reflect that! :ok_hand::ok_hand:
I have one already that I will have on stand by for a floor one. That reminds me that I gotta find it Asap. :upside_down_face:

I use it in my water for plants overall health

This is what I’m afraid of :pensive: I can just tell by living with crap water that something is gonna be way off about it. I plan on testing that soon tho. I am gonna look into an RO tho. I don’t use this water for my family and honestly I hate using it for the plants. So this could be the solution for both!

I bought a cheap system from Amazon. It’s got about a 1 to 1 which is pretty darn good for RO.

We have water delivered. Is there a company in your area that delivers distilled water?
It’s not really that expensive. On the East Coast at least. Probably considerably more in the west.
On the plus side our tap water is pretty clean. No smells and low PPMs. Seriously low actually.
If our tap smelled of bleach I’d be hard pressed to put it on anything! Yikes!!

I’ll mix distilled and tap for the bigger feeds, like 3g distilled, 1g tap
But for my small feeds, like my auto tent, I’ll use 2g distilled with a mixing cups worth being replaced with the hot water I dissolve my Jacks in.

My outside ladies will get a 5g bucket from the tap in the height of growth. You can’t faze them!! LOL!

Jacks has different formulas for tap and ro if you look in the website it takes some of your worries away

Thank you btw. I like things easy 2 access and move around

OK, I did some searching before work and it looks like my best, last minute option, is distilled. I live in the sticks so I’m not sure if distilled can be delivered.
However, my husband is an amazing plumber so I think I might have him set up that RO, and then possibly start looking for some DIY watering systems for him to hook up.
We make a great team, I have all the crazy ideas (I call them rabbit holes) about growing and owning plants and animals, then he is the one that builds everything I need for them. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: He doesn’t mind bc he knows they will be taken care of in the best possible way.
I might slightly obsess over new projects :woman_shrugging:t3: So thank you all for your help!! When my TDS meter comes in, that is how I can tell what my ppm is right? OK took a break from writing this and found my CCR from the water company. I have no idea what I’m looking at . Guess I will look over it and do some googling to see what kinda range ours is in.
Have a rockin day y’all!!!

Good morning, @ZenMarie, there is an alternative way to get low-TDS water if you are using a de-humidifier. I capture the water from mine and use it anytime I would be using distilled/RO/rain-water. I am able to capture roughly 5 gallons every other day, and I simply do this:

Really look into Jack’s formula it will save you ton of money on water because the different formulas they offer besides 321. @Carpenter uses it and loves it and his girls are amazing

I use tap frequently with the generic Jack’s rather than a tap specific or RO specific mix. Although I use RO too. Unless there’s something truly nefarious in the tap water like chloramine, chlorine or insane amounts of sodium (because you’ll already get this in your nutrient mix and we have all seen fox farms nutrients cause problems with high sodium levels).

Measure the PPMs of the water you’re planning to use. My tap water is naturally around 200 PPMs. Distilled and RO should be at or real close to zero.

Then when you go to mix up your nutes, you’ll measure the water ppms again. If you’re using Jack’s 3-2-1, PPMs for vegging is 600-800.

For example, when I mix for veg using tap water, I end up with my nute solution at approx 1000 PPMs. Subtract out the 200 from the tap-supplied PPMs (because I don’t know what’s in it beyond absurd levels of calcium), and you end up at 800ppms, aka your target number.

The target number varies depending on the nutrient line you’re using, so be sure to find the website for your nutes or ask around here - one or many of us have used whatever it is and will very likely have a feed chart and schedule for your plants. :v:

@SilvaBack203 I bought the Jack’s 321. I will go look them up and see what other options they have. I’m glad there is a solution for tap water. Thanks!

@Graysin you rock. That is some invaluable info. I am using the Jack’s 321 and just took a screen shot of your advice and will refer to it when everything gets here and it’s time to utilize it!

@Newt I am loving this idea!!! Anything that can be repurposed, count me in! I have been reading about curing and drying and I think ima have to get a de humidifier. I live in a pretty humid area.

Now all I need is for everything to get here. I’m trying to use my time between now and then to learn as much as possible. This whole forum and page is loaded with all I need and more.
