Let me rephrase “small system”. I meant I’m only going to try one plant for my first round. She’ll be in a 5gal for DWC. It’s not like working with 100gal, sure, but I certainly wasn’t going to go any smaller than 5gal bucket. We grew mangroves in 5 gal for a while.
@DoobieNoobie I was hoping to send you a private PM so as not to bother other folks on the forum with notifications, but I see that peivalge has been revoked due to jerks abusing that system. Oh well. Any who, I really want to learn more about hydro grows and such (aside from the hooooooours I have spent reading). Do you have your own journal or specific post spot or something I could watch? Like, do you have a grow session going that i could see your setup and how you work? Are there strains you prefer to grow? Or is it just personal preference of strain? Like, do you prefer more indica or more sativa in a strain personally, AND is one easier grow hydroponically than the other? Sorry to load ya with questions. TEACH ME, SIR. TAKE ME UNDER WING. PLEEEEEASE SENSEI.
Lol I do have a grow going but not many pics as I’m the local random chat thread lol. I’ll add some pics here. I grow hybrids or indica stuff as I need it for pain and my tolerance is kind of high from the pain. There’s really no difference between them when it comes to growing except time. Sativa strains can take much longer to grow.
Here’s my original setup.
Heres my lights. I have built 6 like this and 2 smaller ones. Plus I have some other lights that aren’t in use yet.
And here’s my new room.
I’m struggling with heat in the new room. I’m probably going to need to invest in a water chiller which is pricey. But looks like no way around it.
Damm them chillers and nit cheap
Nope and I’m looking for one to cover both rooms. So it’ll need to be big enough to cool 165 gallons roughly.
But your going be producing good amounts it seems
The hope is 3 pounds per run or better. Eventually I’d like to get that number higher but that’s my starting goal.
And you got light sabers sweet lights
Duuuuuude YES! THAT LOOKS AWESOME! I hope I can do that someday :3 I’m happy because it looks like a larger setup to what I already want to do. What type of lights do you have? Are those the quantum boards some people have menationed to me?
No these are built by me. These are Samsung F series strips with Meanwell drivers mounted on heatsinks and used aluminum U channel for the end pieces.
I got some better pics somewhere but they’re buried lol. I’ll take some more in a little while.
How many watts they pull
Each big panel is 200 watts. I have two small ones that are 50 watts and one medium that’s 100 watts.
Hell ya bud central
Holy cow you are far more advanced than I’m prepared for at the moment Haha I figured I’d start basic with my first time since there are SO many factors already involved in growing that are new to me! I chose a King Pro 600W LED. Hope I’ll do ok this first time around.
That should be fine for a single plant. Sadly those blurple (color of the light) lights tend to over exaggerate their capabilities. But it’ll do one just fine. And yes this is far from basic lol. I’m north of 3 grand invested. A $500 chiller and I’ll probably break the $4k mark. But there’s guys doing similar for less. And there’s people doing less for more $ lol. Building your own hydro system saves a bunch over prebuilt systems. Even though there’s some really cool systems available for purchase. Like Alien hydroponics, or current culture hydroponics systems. Same for lighting you can get more bang (wattage) for your buck building it while still getting top end lighting.
Hmmmmm… well I was going to throw down about $100ish for LED. Any suggestions i should look into?? Even just for the sake of future reference. if I find that I can actually do this and do it well, I would be open to investing deeper, ya know?
Yeah I definitely think it’s good to start cheap and get a feel for it before going crazy like me lol. There’s some cheaper options in the quantum boards but I struggle to remember which is which. @dbrn32 would be better to answer that question. I think you could cover a single plant for around $150 ish and it’s a good enough light you could always sell and get most your money back if you decide this isn’t for you. But I will let him say for sure. But by going that route you could just add more to it later if you keep growing rather than get a whole new light and the old one just collecting dust with a cheaper one. The cheap blurples don’t have as much resale value and they don’t have as good a life expectancy or warranty.
Aaaaah I see I see. Ok, well screw it. I’m going to continue on my path and I can always add more later, like you said. Thank you! I know i really gotta look into the quantum boards, but they scare me lol
They’re not that bad. And DB can recommend the ones to look at. But @GreenJewels and @blackthumbbetty and a few others have got them and put them together. They’re a couple of our lady growers that you should check out as well there’s more I’m just drawinga blank on spelling for others. They grow beautiful plants. But you can get them pre assembled for a few bucks more.
