I don’t even use the water checker it’s too slow and doesn’t allow complete drainage. When the girls get too big of a root ball to remove, I use a ten dollar liquid pump from Walmart with a dollar tree bucket LOL see pics
Nice looking good bro
@neofirebird Nice–seems to be the go-to pump for this size set up!
Sorry for not seeing your comment I’ve been busy and trying to heal.
No worries at all, brother. Hope you’re healing up!
Oh yeah, on the seventh their gonna take part or all of my colon one surgery after another. SMH
I’m watching your feed waiting for hydro roots to hit water and blow up like mine are…
@neofirebird I’ve got a close pal who has been dealing with gastrointestinal issues issues for a while, and it has really messed him up. Seems like a real tough problem to manage through medicine/diet, etc. Hoping for the best on your upcoming surgery–hopefully the last one needed!
Here’s an update on the plants:
-
Since I transplanted the plants, everything has been relatively smooth sailing. (Knock on wood) The plant in DWC hasn’t yet had roots hit the water below the basket, but I’m getting a good amount of moisture on the bottom of the basket with the water level just a few inches below, and it looks green and relatively healthy.
-
Thanks for those who have followed at Twitch lol. It has been fun checking the cam from time to time. And it helps me remember to refill the humidifier.

Speaking of the humidifier, it has been working great. I was struggling originally because the new fan I purchased is actually slightly stronger that my existing exhaust fan (despite showing the same CFM), so it was creating some positive pressure in the tent. After reducing the intake fan speed below the speed of the exhaust fan, the negative pressure in the tent has made it significantly easier to control humidity levels.
Here are some pictures:
Blue Dream #1 (DWC)
Mojave Green #1 (Strongest plant so far!)
Mojave Green #2
Lemon Glue F2 #1
Lemon Glue F2 #2
And lastly, Blue Dream #2, absolutely struggling, and barely holding on with the tiniest amount of growth. Recall, this one was buried too deep and came up with a single cotyledon, which itself is turning yellow quickly. We’ll see what happens! (Was ready to throw this one away a few days ago, but decided to let it sit in the tent.)
Cheers!
Yeah it’s a bitch… Thanks I’m hoping it’ll work out. My girls will be probably drinking a gallon a day daily three weeks from now. That’ll be a pain in the ass. Wife doesn’t do any of it… Yet.
Did you see the huge White LSD I harvested about 4-6 weeks ago in my journal? The Mango is a photo I’m pretty sure I screwed up veg time; not long enough, I was afraid being a photo it would hulk out in size on me. She’s like 14 weeks since germination I believe.
Yeah, after how large that previous plant got, I can’t blame you for keeping the veg time lower haha
I noticed your twitch feed is down was checking on your progress. Hope you’re staying safe and being well.
@neofirebird — Thanks for checking in, brother. Flew out of state Monday for a funeral and ended up getting food poisoning in the Chicago airport. Been out of commission for a bit here, but I’m back in Cali and recovering. Stream will be starting up again momentarily.
Here’s a quick update on progress. One thing I’m noticing is a lot of warped/misshapen leaves, with the exception of one of the Mojave Green. At first, I thought this was because of my crazy high temperatures during the recent heat waves in Cali, and then I considered it may be from getting too much wind early on. In any case, the new growth is looking pretty good, so I’m just going to keep trucking.
So far, my Mojave Green is coming in the strongest, as it has been from the start. Excited to see this one continue to take off. You may recall, this is not a feminized seed, so crossing my fingers for a lady:
The other Mojave Green:

Set to watching, I’m on my first grow too, rdwc. I am also fascinated by hydroponics. I have a journal going I’m nearly 5 weeks into flower. Not sure I will have much advice for you but you already seem off to a better start than I was. Are you using the Advanced nutrient pH perfect nutes? They have been great for me, I ended up buying a decent continual monitor for my set up as the cheap pens didn’t seem to be working well. Good luck!
Thanks for following, Takumi! I believe I’m following your journal as well–really like your RDWC set up. For my next grow, I’m going to upgrade the DWC to either 1 large 27gal tote or a 2-3 bucket RDWC system. Still got a bit of research and measuring to do on that!
I am using the Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect base nutrients + CalMag + HydroGuard. I’ve noticed my pH will drift upwards to 6.2-6.3 every few days, so I need to pH down a couple times a week at this point.
Cheers!
I wonder if water temps affect the pH? The veg nutes were a stable 5.8 the entire time or at least they were when I stopped using the cheap pH pen and the bloom nutes have been 6.1 constantly aswell. It’s very easy for me to have steady 18°c (64f) water cus I’m in Scotland and well you would probably find it cold. Humidity is my main issue as it’s pretty much 80% all year round.
Oh, hell yeah! I spent a few weeks in Edinburgh back in 2012 while studying. Incredible place!
But yeah, my temperatures have been insane lately. Normally, my area of California is around 75F consistently, but we’ve seen a pretty crazy heat wave as of late. My water temps are higher than I’d like, around 75-76F throughout the day. I’m hoping the Hydroguard will help prevent some of the issues that arise from that kind of situation.
You’ll be fine at those temps with hydroguard - change out bucket solution every 5 to 7 days, rinsing it out while plant is still small. Later I get to having to use the pump but it doesn’t get 100% of the ppms so you can add a gallon after emptying and re drain. This keeps water fresh and cooler and nicely nuted each time.
Glad to hear it. I’ll be switching out the resevoir today and adding the second week’s nutrients. Gotta snap some pictures of the roots as well–they’re starting to reach the water!
Personally I don’t nute the water just pH plain water until I see roots. Two things here to note: the codylns have all the nutes they need to grow about two weeks. The other note is once roots hit water or are dangling out that’s when I feed week one, at end of first 7 to 10 days getting roots hanging. You don’t want to overwhelm them roots by week two feeding yet… Just MHO but I’m sure they’ll live through it. They’re weeds
when they hit the nutes BOOM should take off
I forgot to get some pictures, but the roots are definitely taking off into the water now–saw a couple roots that were already in the water by about an inch or two. Lots of new growth!
We’re at about 3 weeks in overall, and I’m going along with the suggestions on the back of the bottles so far. We’ll see what happens–I’ll definitely grab some better pictures tomorrow.
Also–@takumi, mixing up the nutrients today at a higher strength, the pH landed real nicely where I want it, so I’ll keep eyes on the pH and the temps this time around again and see if I spot any pH drift.
