Who smokes weed and doesn't drink

I grow it but dont smoke it haven’t smoke in over 30yrs…but that never stopped me from drinking…lol…have yo do something to keep me smiling

I used to spend every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night out drinking with buddies. We would get absolutely smoked, but I never drank on other nights of the week. That came to an end when I grew older and my body couldn’t take it any more.

I still have 2 or 3 cocktails every evening. I get a liver function blood test every 6 months. I’ll stop if I ever see any decline in liver function.

Me and alcohol have a love hate relationship. It was great until I was about 27 and then the party was over. Spent a few years digging a hole, been trying to dig out ever since. Some days are easier than others. I’m giving it my all to be done for good this time, the blackouts suck, the hangovers suck. For me it’s fun up to a point, than it’s no longer fun. I’m better off with out it. Herb helps curb the cravings but won’t stop them completely.

Herb does help with my sanity though . Probably better for me too. Already a pack a day smoker, what’s a few puffs of a joint at the end of the day? Lol

I quit drinkin about 30 years ago. I was a mess. Black outs. DUIs, people I pissed off, etc etc. Stopped cold turkey. It was rough at first but in time it became the new normal. Oh, I still feel the temptation but the memories of the bad stuff and how much better I feel is a great trade-off.
If ya ever want someone to chat with just tag me man. Hold the corse, You got this.

I appreciate it, thanks man. I have been where you were, no DUIs luckily but everything else. It’s a horrible feeling waking up the next morning wondering what you said/did the night before and if your wife is going to be happy or pissed at you. That and a lot of lost time with the kids, I only remember bits and pieces, missed a lot of stuff buried in the bottle. I was always there but not really there, I was a home drinker for the most part as I knew the bars would get me into too much trouble. They’re getting older now so I don’t want them seeing me like that cause they would know something is off.

Like you said, when temptations hits the best deterrent is the shitty things things you’ve done/feelings. That and hang overs suck horribly. A strong cup of piping hot black coffee will go a long way.

It was the 4 day hang overs that got me to stop. Black outs too.
Pretty much just herb now.
Might have a taste at Christmas or New Years but only 1 or 2 and that’s it.
Still got a bottle in the freezer from 2 yrs ago barely touched.
Stay true to yourself brother.
You can do this. :+1:

Not a drop since 5/25/2005. Thank God. Been on and off smoking since I was a teenager and the devils lettuce has never caused me one problem in my life. Good old legal alcohol about destroyed it. In my old age I have turned into a darn pot head lol and enjoying every minute of it.

Good for you man! I’m hoping someday I can have almost 20 years of that behind me. I have seen alcohol destroy way more lives than pot…I have yet to see someone in one of those rooms because of weed. Yes, sometimes that didn’t help but always, always the root cause is one of 2 substances that put people in those rooms and one is legal, hell even encouraged, people think you’re weird if you don’t drink and one has a legal form.

I used to drink regularly when younger. But I almost never drink at home even though I keep a few beers in the fridge. I like an occasional ice cold beer with BBQ or a good steak while dining out. Or an occasional mixed drink waiting on a table reservation for a quick buzz.

I recently I heard something that changed my thinking about hard alcohol though.

Alcohol is used to extract the life essence of herbs and even cannabis for medicinal or recreational use for hundreds of years. Alcohol does the same thing to humans. It extracts the life essence of a human slowly until they become of shell of their former self. This resonated with me as true from a lifetime of experience around alcoholics.

Paying sometimes stupid expensive per drink prices to piss away your life essence. It’s not worth it.

I feel like i typed this but i see your name and image next to the post  same with me though. Too many nights of going ill remember the rest of the night, im doing good. Next morning the last thing i remembered was saying ill remember this haha i would only drink on nights where i didnt work the next morning. That mightve only been one night that week, but that meant it was hammer time! Life got more complicated becuase of it, missed too many things, and i didnt want my kids seeing dad passed out wherever i decided was a good spot the night before. A long night of thinking about the talks i had with my dad about the booze before he passed and hearing a song by billy currington called leading me sealed the deal. Currently in year 5 and plan on keeping it that way. Keep on keeping on, some days are harder but those harder days pass and the next day your thankful you refrained. :v:

Thanks for posting that. It’s good to know you’re not alone. Being sober is almost taboo, I have been to AA and all that. It gave me some good tools and I have met great people there but for the most part a lot of the people are only there because of a court order or similar. To be honest there were few people I could relate to 100% or even 80%. The ones that I did relate to really hit home and helped me realize that yeah, things are THAT bad. I’m not beating anyone up but I was never a park bench alcoholic or anything like that but an extremely high functioning (some days better than others).

I held it together as best I could for as long as I could but eventually it consumed me. Drinking till blackout or pass out was extremely frequent, always after work hours though, never drank during work cause if I didn’t have money I couldn’t drink. Being drunk until 10am from the night before was not uncommon though. If it was a Saturday morning, a nip or 2 to hold off the Hangover was a real possibility. Weekend usually involved 2-3 sleeves of nips plus whatever else was lying around. It was fucking miserable when I look back now but then, it was normal. Never lost a job, got a DUI, slept on a park bench, etc like most people see in the movies or where their mind goes when they hear alcoholic. There’s different rock bottoms for everyone and I’m glad mine wasn’t worse than it actually was.

I do miss being able to drink socially like a normal person but when I go to a gathering and watch people I am actually kind of put off by them, guess I just miss the “stupid, silly fun” but that can be had sober, just have to channel my inner 14 year old haha.

These days, I’m just trying to keep my head up and out of the bottle. Hoping I can hit the 5,10,20,etc mark. If it wasn’t for my wife and kids I’m not sure where I’d be.
