Not sure if I made this up or read it around here, but pretty sure water softeners are a no go for growing :thinking:
Don’t panic I’m probably wrong :grin::green_heart::sign_of_the_horns:t2:

We use a water softener, the occasional use of tap hasn’t presented any issues. :man_shrugging: I have heard that though.

Salt is used to soften the water, but the ro should remove that salt no? Seems kinda like it would make one of those obsolete

Maybe this is what my bean is remembering :zany_face::green_heart::sign_of_the_horns:t2:

Lololol! Yeahhh I’ll figure it out with the plumber… he’s putting my RO system in the utility room so technically he could bypass the softener if needed.
And I’ll be able to fill up a bunch of these empty gallon jugs I have lying around soon enough!

^ me and LB doin’ our thing :rofl:

All of our water runs through the softener and then through the RO. I don’t always use tap- but I have several times and haven’t seen issues.

The point of water softener is mainly to protect your pipes and it’s a good investment. Also great for laundry and bathing, and even cooking.

Oh @Krista yeah mine is being a piece of work today, I had to pull out the foot spa an epsom salt

I blame therapy yesterday :disappointed_face:

We already have a softener, we have well water so we need one. We’re just getting a new one installed - because he said ours is old af and probably the reason our pH is so high… whether or not that’s the culprit, I don’t know.

That looks nice and relaxing tho! Hopefully that helps make it feel a little better at least!
:hugs::two_hearts::heart_hands:

I’d have both feet in with the Lobo in hand :wink::joy:

I’m sorry you’re in pain, I really wish I could help you!

Two more hours til I can like posts again :roll_eyes:

It should give me enough relief to take a quick shower lay down and throw the ice pack on it :tired_face: the struggle is real today

It’s all good, life happens

Our tap pushes around 8 pH. High enough to use it as pH up when correcting nutrient mixes done with RO. I consider this a benefit personally. :call_me_hand:t3:

Ditto about 7.9 here…

Just added 2.5 litres of tap water to my DWC to raise the pH from 5.2 to 6.0!

We have a well, as well. I installed a Haferman water softener due to the high Calcium, we actually had chunks in our water. I have not had an issue with my plants at all.

You can also use dehumidifier water, but you’re probably not running that this time of year… :rofl:
But it’s almost 0ppm for solids.

morning growmie… I only use RO or distilled for the reasons you already know from experience… I also use these little things to keep the humidifiers clean because even the RO or distilled will eventually leave a film and these stop that from happening…

I do this!! Not much help at current time.

I have collected 5-gallon buckets of snow also. Kinda a PITA, though, cuz it’s cold and wet!

I’m on well water with a water softener, it’s been 3 years now without a problem

When a salt water softener kicks in, it’s set to purge every so many gallons of water used. If you draw water while it’s working then you have major salt in your lines. Usually they are set to regenerate in the middle of the night while you’re sleeping. It happened to me once, I had to open every faucet until the salt was all out.

We’re on well water. I only have to add pH down.
