Whimsical Reefer Waggery

Hi :waving_hand: ILGM fellow growers! My name is Krista and I’m brand new to the grow scene and joined the new online grow course. I’m super excited to (virtually) meet you all, become a part of this community, and start this journey.

First things first -
This is the setup I ordered (I made an Amazon list to share - it’s not a “wishlist”, everything was purchased):

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3N4ZZJARRJFHH?ref_=wl_share

The only things I didn’t order off Amazon were a 4 cu ft bag of course perlite that I picked up from a local nursery for $35, a Pelonis® 22-Pint Gravity Drain Dehumidifier that I already had, a quality surge protector that I already had, and (of course) cannabis seeds. :joy:

I want a setup that can give me a great finished product. Yield isn’t my biggest concern so I chose a 2’ x 4’ tent but I wanted my equipment to be from reputable companies. I also added equipment to help with humidity and temperature control so it’s less work/supervision required.

If anyone notices anything I’m missing or should buy (other supplemental lighting, other nutes, etc.) - I would greatly appreciate it!!!

I will be starting out with blue dream autos - we will start our group germination around the 14th of November.

Feel free to reply here or via direct messages. I would love to find buddies to chat with and I’m also curious about learning breeding in the future.

Sending love from the Midwest :two_hearts:

Welcome @Krista , tons of knowledge here! What medium are you going to use with perlite, coco or Promix? I run Promix and 50 percent perlite. I’ll tag you in my journal, please look around, I think you will find my use of tomato cages perfect for controlling footprint of plants in a small space. Hopefully you have a set of good PH and PPM/EC meters, they are absolutely a necessity. You can tag growers here by typing like so. To tag me just type @Growdoc , if you see one of us doing something similar to what you want, tag and ask questions, you’ll find the friendliest bunch of growers here, all walks of life, but one common hobby. Best of luck, heading over to tag you in.:oncoming_fist::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I got the Happy Frog potting soil. From what I could find researching it was recommended by a lot of people.

Oh boy! Happy Frog is a lighter mi than Ocean Forest, but several folks have had PH dropping issues in it. You can add a tablespoon of fine ground Dolomites lime to each gallon of media, and mix it in well to help offset this. You’ll want to feed them after 4 weeks in the HF, the nutes will start depleting by then. Water at 6.5 ph until the nutes go down to less than 1000 ppm, then you will need to feed them. What nutes are you planning on using?

@Growdoc
So that Amazon list/link has everything I bought. I got the CaliMag, FloraSeries, and the pH control kit so far (for additives).

I see you got the flora series. I used to use that, but switched to organic. Something you may want to look into. I have found it to produce a much more quality product in taste and smell. You’ll probably eventually want to upgrade your light to something like an HLG 350R for a 2x4. I didn’t notice, did you get a scrog net? Looks like you’re on the right track though. It takes a few grows to dial in exactly what you like. I have found organics is a much easier way to grow, and a better product, but that’s just my opinion. My latest, cafe racer.

Thank you Dex for taking the time to check over my setup and give me feedback!
I can absolutely upgrade my lights to something else - I was just way too overwhelmed trying to figure out what the “best” option was for my setup. I will look into the HLG 350R if that’s the ideal light for my build.
Is there something you recommend over the flora series?
And yes, I did order a scrog net :hugs:

This is correct. We also don’t allow links to personal social media, sorry. While we understand that these policies aren’t the easiest to navigate, the anonymity of our members is important due to the nature of our business.

We typically allow each thread to be managed by the topic owner (you in this case) so use it however you’d like, within forum guidelines. If you want to ask growing related questions, socialize, or whatever is fine as long as the conversation is relatively clean and friendly.

Feel free to tag any of us individually if you have any questions, or you can get all of us by using @moderators. Best of luck with your grow!

I can only tell you what I do. There’s so many methods, and everyone has their own. I use happy frog soil, mixed with fox farm happy frog fruit and flower, and some extra perlite. Then top dress with the fruit and flower every four weeks. Water with plain water during veg. During flower I use bio thrive in my water. Recharge every once in a while works great too as it adds microbes into the soil to keep your soil alive and healthy. I don’t even ph my water as it buffers to between 6.5 and 7. Like I said, tons of methods, and someone will disagree with everyone of them. This works for me. And by the way, it’s hard to beat HLG lights, but they are expensive.

Thank you @dbrn32 for the information. From what I read on the forums, I thought instagram was the ticket and ok to share.
So what exactly is the proper procedure if we want to be able to connect and communicate outside of this forum?

Welcome! You have a pretty solid list. Your light is only 200watts so you’ll probably want to upgrade that fairly soon if you enjoy this hobby but it’ll do for your first few grows.

I also grow in cocoa using the GH Flora line so if you have any issues feel free to hit me up

If you are looking for a mentor we can set up a dm with another member although we don’t do this as a general rule.

Welcome by the way!

The two things I would suggest for your grow is I recommend photoperiod over autos for newer growers as they are more forgiving of any problems you might have.

I have used the GH Flora series and it does a good job. I’ve been using Jack’s program for years and highly recommend it.

I would also suggest following someone’s journal and don’t hesitate to ask questions. You’ll find most growers here are very helpful. We’ve all been where you are now.

We pretty much advise that members don’t do this. But if you happen to find others on ig or whatever it’s not like we can police that. I think you will find many here have the same or similar username on other platforms.

@Myfriendis410
I am part of the ILGM beginner course and they/we are doing blue dream autos. So with the weekly walk-throughs, Q&As, and help from the ILGM crew and mentors I will hopefully be ok starting with autos. (Either way, it wasn’t my choice )
I also got invited to @Growdoc journal so I have been progressing through his story - it’s amazing seeing what you all can do!
I appreciate the recommendations and you taking your time to help :two_hearts:
So now… I just have to decide on a better light.

What would be everyone’s favorite light choices for a 2’ x 4’ tent? Cost and efficiency isn’t really an issue, I just want tried and true. I’ve seen a lot of issues with dimmers crapping out on ppl in the forum so I’d like to avoid that if possible.

Also, will I need more than one Cloudray S6 for the 2x4 setup?

Thank you all for making this such a wonderful community and helping new growers!
