@Myfriendis410 I shoot 250gn Berger Hybrids, Lapua brass loaded with 91.5gn Hodgdon H1000 with a BO of 2.95". Muzzle velocity is 2,820. I spent a lot of time developing my load, tweaking both powder charge and then base-ogive distance. It’s pretty dialed in. I really like the Hodgdon because powder burn rate isn’t affected much at all by temperature.
I get sub-MOA, but how much depends on conditions. I’d say somewhere between 0.6 to 0.75 MOA on average. I can do 0.5 on a calm day. I use Strelok Pro.
I got my first hits at a mile this year, though I usually shoot between 620 and 1,100 yards.
Yeah; it’s about 100-150 fps hotter than the Lapua across the board.
My go to powder is I4831 sitting behind a Barnes 265 LRX at 2,920 fps: that one will give me 3 shots into 1/4" at 100. Like the Hodgdon powders it’s fairly insensitive to temp swings. Living in Kalifornia we don’t have ready access to long range (not that I’m gonna shoot a crap ton with this monster with a 1,000 round barrel life)
Once I’m moved to Colorado I plan on developing a load with either the ELD or the Accubond LR: neither the Barnes or the Berger are reliable on game beyond about 600 yards. I’d prefer to shoot a bullet that will open up at 1,000 yards (not that I’m ever likely to shoot an animal that far).
Here’s the rifle: Leupold VXIII with CDS/Boone and Crockett reticle 4.5 to 14
I’m not up on the chassis rifles coming out: nice rig and certainly appropriate for 1,000 yard.
I am a big fan of classic doubles, singles and so on. I have a project gun: a Ruger No. 1 originally in 7mm mag that I had a 1 in 10 Krieger barrel installed and chambered for 257 Wby mag. I have a pretty piece of black walnut to build a stock for it someday (I’m a woodworker). The Cooper is kind of out of my wheelhouse as it’s an all weather hunting rig which is how I’ve dressed it up. The B&C reticle on top of the CDS seems overkill but works. I’ve only taken it to 300 on paper and 600 on 8" plates. 300 yard groups with the 225 gr. TTSX (at 3,050 fps) go 1 1/2" for 3 shots. I need to run distance again now that I have a 'brake on it.
My ‘go to’ gun for fun is a reproduction Sharps in 45/70. THAT is an eye-opening experience to see 19th Century technology stack 5 rounds through 1 hole at 100 yards.
Here it is on the hook: my buddy (he was Base Commander then) had access to 11,000 acres on the south end of the base and we were the only two hunting it. We killed a lot of stuff.
So I have added a new hobby and I can’t believe that I’m doing it. I’m starting to collect coins from the Roman Empire. My first one is in better shape than I was expecting. Constantine the Great so the coin is over 1600 years old. I really need to get a Endoscope for my iPhone so I can really see all the details. The face side you can actually see the details but the backside is harder to see without some aid like a Jeweler Loupe.
I havnt drawn anything since grade school but I was once pretty good at drawing a stick man, army tank or a motorcycle…I drew a horse in 5th grade, showed it to Johnny and he drew a dick on it…the teach grabbed it before I had a chance to see what Johnny had done and when asked,I readily admitted to drawing the horse, thinking I was gonna get some ‘praise’…nope, got my ass busted and the teach threw my ‘masterpiece’ in the trash!..that was around 1968-69…things were a little different back then…:>)
I haven’t bought or sold coins lately but I did for many years. Most of the coins were highly graded or errors and were bought and sold at hopefully a profit. Here’s one I decided to keep as it has quite an interesting story behind it.
That’s pretty cool. I’m more focused on Ancient Greece and the Roman from start to collapse. Lots of History there. I’ll be doing a 2 week tour in Greece May 2020. I’ve already been to Athens. A giant slum but the History is undeniable. Loved Roma as well. Sucker for old architecture.
I’m about to wrap up one from Marcus Aurelius reign. I’ve already got this one included photo
…shooting…survival…hiking/urban recon… (as much as my old ‘joints’ can stand at 61 years young)…need to try out my new S&W AR-15 I got for CHRISTmas too…:>)
Late Hunting report. Managed to get a little 6 pointer with bow this year. Was happy to get a shot, most of my hunting this year ended up raining or so windy it was almost impossible to hunt.
