Ok. Its an indoor grow. My tent is 2.5X2.5X4.5. My seeds are from Seed Supreme. I have feminized and auto-flower. My water is well water. Comes out of faucets at a ph of 7.5-7.8. I dont know the EC/TDS of water. I do have the pen to test that though. Need to be taught how to use. Anyway. My grow method: DWC, 5 gallon buckets, using coco-coir instead of hydroton. Nutrient brand is Flourish grow, micro, and bloom. Also i have Tarantula, piranha, and voodoo, MYCO+, CAL-MAG, Bone-meal. Using LEDs. 100W, 600W, and the other says 1000W. I need to figure this out exactly. Temps and hum: always around 79°ā84° with 40% - 60% humidity thats day and night. 4in inline fan, carbon filter. No Co2. Official 2nd grow. 1 one was back in 2013. So im calling this 1 my first. Ill spend whats needed to get awesome buds⦠anything else let me know. Thx guys.
Iām a soil or coco grower. Honest I know nothing about DWC. First thing you need to do is YouTube or google how to work that pen. Ph fluctuations will get in ya in a real mess real quick. Also nutrient fluctuations. TDS is total dissolved solids.
Iāll tag a few for ya that may have more knowledge then me on your grow
@PurpNGold74 @Fieldofdreams
Oh, itās Sunday so itās kinda quiet on here sometimes
PH and ppm fluctuations in hydro are definitely important. Ima soil guy myself but there are good knowledgable peeps abound.
I highly recommend you play around with that ppm pen though. Test bottled water. Test tap water. Test your nutrients at half strength. Test your nutrients at full strength. Check the ppms of your reservoir daily or as often as possible. Hydro grows have nutrients ALOT more readily available, but thats a double sided sword. Things can go sideways EXTREMELY fast.
@HappyHydroGrower @Grandaddy013 @peachfuzz @Myfriendis410 have all forgotten more hydro knowledge then ill ever know. Feel free to bother those guys for more exacts haha.
Thanks for the tag @Woodrow and sorry for the delay @Mark85 Welcome to the forum!
Using coco is going to be problematic as it will wick more moisture up into the root zone and stem than the plant will be happy with.
How far below net pot is your liquid? Should be 1 1/2 to 2" below.
Better learn how to use that TDS pen if you want to be successful growing DWC.
What is your water temp?
Not knowing the TDS of nutrient solution itās impossible to know exactly whatās going on but suspect nute burn/damping off.
I kinda saw the nute burn but couldnt say for sure for the dampening (which I honestly couldnt tell what was going on!) U friggin showoff haha. Thanks bro
Thanks for the tag there brother Purp!
Dwc is not really made for small plants. 4.5ā can be done but your gonna have to train them and stay on top of them to keep them small. It can be done but I wouldnāt want to try it.
Like mentioned above, you have to know how to use your ppm meter and pH meter.
Hopefully you are adjusting your pH to 5.8āish which is better for hydro.
There are plenty of folks that run hydro. If you have any more question, feel free to post them here. Stay in touch and good luck! Keepāem growing.
Thanks for knowledge. I love this forum. I did learn how to use my pen. Ill get you the parameters later. Busy working. Have it wrote down. But yes one plants medium(coco) stays damp. The others do but plant must be drinking it cause the top layer is dry. Im sure it was my nutrients though. My OG feminized is doing awesome. But these two white widow autos are giving me trouble. First i thought it was the lights being to close. And having 3 leds was burning them. But this may not be the case. .
so i guess ill be investing in a bigger tent soon. I figured 4-5 pants in there would be too tight. Ima upgrade. Stay tooned. But how do i know whats a good ppmand EC?
First; stay away from any organics as they can make a mess out of your setup.
TDS for photos should be around 900 ppm in veg, 1,100 or so in flower. Autos Iād run 700/900 as they seem to do better at a lower salt concentration.
I donāt see silica being used and this is a necessary micronutrient to promote a healthy plant and to produce trichomes (theyāre made of silica).
5.5 to 5.8 PH is the range you want to be in for hydro.
Your well water, if itās high in minerals may not be suitable for hydro as you have to account for the total amount of salts in the solution. R/O may be for you if you continue.
I would also suggest to look into RDWC with a chiller if you continue doing water grows. I would also ditch the coco and get hydroton (or coco chips).
I got a new ppm pen and donāt know how to use it. Mine is running 3500-3600. I donāt have a clue what scale it is, but can tell by looking at the planti i can tell itās the right amount.
That being said, I use Jackās 1-2-3 and keep check on my ph.
From your list of nutes, I can tell you like to spend money. Iāve been through a LOT in the last 6 years. The main thing I learned is:
KISS Keep things simple. Correct environment and basic nutrition, and the plant will do the rest.
I can tell you from experience, 5gallon buckets WILL work, just not very well. Lots of extra work involved, not to mention limited size plants.
If youāre going to grow in hydro, I personally would only go RDWC. MUST have water chiller. Can be done without one, I just couldnāt. Iāve used a lot of different kinds of nutes over the years, and the only kind I personally recommend is Jackās 1-2-3. It is less expensive, less ph fluctuations, and does an excellent job. While I was sick, I ran 2 grows and never checked ph or ppm a single time. I donāt suggest doing that, itās just what I had to do at the time. Excellent results.
I use 27gal totes. One for plants, one for reservoir. This is for each system. I have 3systems for flower, 2for veg. Each system in the flower room has itās own water chiller. I keep my veg room 65°, so I donāt need one in there.
As you can probably tell, my worst battles were with root rot. None after getting chillers.
Iām old and disabled, so I like to make things as easy as possible
In addition to Jackās I use a water conditioner (chlorine remover), because I use county water
Hydrogaurd because you need it in hydro
And Diamond Nectar. Itās fulvic acid and helps plants absorb nutrients better.
I also use Terminator. You can buy it for $100/gal
ot make it for about $6/gal. Goggle homemade Terminator. Thanks to @dbrn32 for that discovery
Iāve heard a lot of people complain about the cost of a chiller. I average 2lbs per harvest. The cost of a chiller is neglegible compared to having to buy 2lbs. And thatās only one harvest. Itās really cheap insurance
