Darkness ahead of harvest will do absolutely nothing for bud production or potency. The idea of darkness ahead of harvest is to allow salts transported to the canopy during daytime are stored in roots during darkness. Chopping the plant down from darkness then sequesters those same (harsh) salts in the root mass so not present in your flower. Whether it makes a difference or not has never been established.
I would strongly suggest, if you want to improve cured flower to do a bud wash in peroxide.
