Wet Or Dry-Final Trim

No I think the machine takes a lot of valuable terpenes off of the plants and the buds lose their beautiful look.

This is right out of my bowl trimmer, yes , it knocks some trichs off, but it’s acceptable to me for the time savings, and I use the kief anyway. It’s not too tore up ….

I’d say there’s a few trichs left, wouldn’t you?:rofl::smiling_face_with_sunglasses::oncoming_fist::folded_hands:

Now that looks good. The s*** in the dispensary looks terrible

Plants going to the dispensary aren’t grown with love so I doubt they’re harvested with love either. Plants probably get treated like red headed step kids😂

The trick with a bowl trimmer is to do it wet, fresh off the stem. They come with a blade for dry trimming but I don’t recommend trying that

Those I posted were dry trimmed.:oncoming_fist::smiling_face_with_sunglasses::+1:

Terpenes can be scraped out of the bowl as kief. I don’t think that the bowl trimmer takes any more off than hand trimming and handling. Can’t scrape the stuff off the nitrile gloves anyway. At least you can recover what’s in the stainless steel trimming bowl.

Seriously? Man I’ve tried mine twice dry and I’ll never use a bud spinner on dry buds again. Does good when they’re wet though

Hey @Growdoc , I know for wet buds I trim with the bowl trimmer going at a fairly slow speed. How fast do you spin when dry trimming?

I think you’re confusing terpenes with trichomes. Terpenes are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in plants and some animals. They’re responsible for the aromas, flavors, and even colors associated with various types of vegetation. But you can’t scrape them out of a bowl.

Like a woman in orthopedic shoes, I stand corrected! lol, you are absolutely right @Deadhead , my mind was thinking trichomes and my fingers were thinking terpenes…my bad!

I crank it pretty fast for 30-40 turns and check. Airy buds will get destroyed though. I make oil mostly so I don’t mind a good trim, all the trimmings get screened and kief saved.:oncoming_fist::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

@Growdoc , I had heard and watched videos that recommended turning fairly slowly like 15 times in each direction, so it doesn’t tear stuff up. I tried that and it was ok, but not quite good enough. So now I found through some trial and error, that after 15 slow turns each way, I then add on 10 turns in each direction at double the slow rate. The slow seems to keep it from being torn apart at first and the faster spins helps keep the buds from piling up and missing stuff. Just my personal observation, I’m interested to hear what everyone else is doing. Oh, and got the new 19-inch bowl trimmer with included 6-tier drying rack from Amazon today for $36. I got one of the last two before they ran out. It will be interesting to see how much more it holds than my 16-inch one. Thanks.

This is the directions an old timer gave me when I bought my spinner and it worked so I’ve stuck to it.

I spin each direction 25 times at a steady pace. After that I inspect each bud and do a quick hand trim if needed. I then weigh all my buds wet before placing on a drying rack. When they’ve lost 75-80% of their weight it’s time for jars. So with 100g of wet buds, once they weigh 25-30g and jarred they’ll be right around 65% RH. This method has worked very well for me

Exactly why I say everyone has to find THEIR way of doing things, what works for one may be disastrous for another. Once you find your groove in this hobby, it does seem to go on cruise control. :+1::oncoming_fist::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’m still waiting for cruise control. My ride is manual everything :joy:

I love to dry trim just bc you get a beautiful uniform cover from the sugar leaves and the plants absorb whatever is left on the sugar leaves and they get super sticky when you dry trim
