I’m 87 days in post sprout (7/8 weeks into flower) on these two GDP Autos. I’m fairly sure they’re ready for the cut. Coupled with some type of nutrient issue, thinking this week would be best unless anyone has some experienced advice.
What say you all that have more experience in this field?
From the look of the plant she is getting close. If you are able to check a bud that is about 1/3 down the plant and then 1/3 down that bud to check the trichomes is what I have heard is the best way to go for checking and what I do myself. If you have something like a jewelers loop, microscope, or macro mode on your phone to get a better look at the trichomes will also help. Looking for opaque/cloudy instead of shinny and clear. Tend to also start bending over as they turn amber then brown as well.
There is a nice picture floating around here on a few other threads for trichome maturity. I’ll see if I can find it again and link it here for you.
You could always chop a few of them til others are ready. Some look good to me. Take a piece from a bud, do a quick dry and smoke, see how you like it. I put a hunk in micro a minute in paper towel. Not the best way but…if it’s too racy, not done yet.
Y’all really think I should let these go another week or two?
I mean that’s what I was thinking about two weeks ago already. I’m starting to see amber coloring up in the tricomes. And I feel like I’m really pressing it with this one plant that is suffering from a very bad nutrient issue which I haven’t been able to balance out for whatever reason. My main concern is them dying while potted, if they were healthy then yeah, I’d for sure have no problem waiting. But I’m completely new to this so I’m taking advice where I can get it. Just wanted to voice my concerns.
But; I don’t want to split my harvest into separate times as I only have one place to grow and cure.
I think I will go in there right now and clip a bud to do a quick dry on and see what comes of it though.
Its not like she is gonna fall over and die if you dont harvest her. Not pefectly but across the finishline none the less, and all kindsa bud to boot! She is beautiful and loaded with trichomes. All “mistakes” aside. Well done on an inpending harvest.
I am in agreement with others about another week but really it falls to you to decide how you want your high to be. 10-15% amber for dazed and confused. 25-30% amber will leave you stuck to the couch. Now I like that but others may not. As the grower you choose. We cant, through the pictures, really see what you can with her right infront of you. Look at it this way, you will only harvest too early, once.
From what i can tell, youll want to wait at least a week. You want to look at bud trichomes, not leaves. Leaf trichomes will mature a hell of alot quicker than bud. You want the stalk of your trichome to have a purplish milky color and a milky or amber mushroom type head. Youll hate yourself if you pull too early. Heres a crispy chick i pulled last harvest…
Alright, I guess y’all have talked me off the ledge
I’ll put in another week. I went ahead and did another watering and clipped a smaller-ish bud and pinned it up to get a bit of airflow for a bit quicker dry to give it a test run.
I’m really wanting to aim for 20% amber so it only makes sense to wait. Think I’m just nervous about that one plant not getting any better for whatever reason. I think it’s just messing with my thinking because I’ve studied this quite a bit before I even started to make sure I know what to do when. And yeah, they’re definitely not 20% amber right now sure getting close and I knew to wait a week until after you think they’re ready. Problem is I was getting the feeling they were pretty ready about a week ago. So it’s gotta be the overall look of that poorer looking plant that’s tricking me into wanting to harvest now.
I am very happy about the size of buds these girls have produced though. I seriously didn’t think I’d see this much production from just two plants on my first run.
I’m already making notes on how to better things my next round this autumn. Just gotta figure out what variety I want to try next. So many decisions! Glueball and GG4 have always been my favorite from the dispensaries. So I’m thinking of giving GG4 a try. But Zkittles, Girl Scout Cookies and Blueberry all seem enticing….
Just an update. It’s been about three weeks since I posted this and 105 days post germination at this point. And these girls still look extremely sad, but yet still putting off bud growth. Trichomes are barely in the Amber stage, still.
