I’m always telling my old lady it takes a week to kill a plant. I don’t know how true that is but so far, seems to be holding true. So don’t worry if it takes time for peeps to get to ya. I won’t lie to you. You have a lot of work ahead of you. Caring for the plants when they are healthy-pretty easy, much more time intensive if they are not.
Tracking the numbers is my biggest task and I’ve only got four of em. You bit off a lot in this one. Know that going in so when it gets crazy, you aren’t bowled over. Do you have a growing partner with you? If it wasn’t for my old lady I’d be gardening all day on feed/water days. She is just shy of more involved then me in our grows.
Get a battery powered liquid transfer pump for watering. If you go to Harbor Freight (or similar low end hardware store) get two, it will die fast. I got two new ones at ace and the 1st one has doubled the life of its predecessors. You will likely want a 5 gallon bucket or jug to mix nutes in. Cant wait to see those lady’s shine.
Thanks for the heads up. I do have a partner (old lady as well) but she just doesnt know it yet here they are today, well the worst of the worst. There is a gold leaf that I will be very surprised if she survives. No picture included, but I will treat her as salvageable until I see a reason not too.
Definitely some nute burn and beginning signs of lockout in those pictures. Dark green/waxy looking. Textbook.
It’s time for a support ticket or at least some info on pH, PPM, etc.
Curious what your water source is? This reminds me strongly of the kind of issues you see from municipal or softened water.
@Deez will do, my ph pen and ppm reader arrived today so I will check once I get home. Its a cheap starter set from amazon (the blue and yellow) but I figured its better than nothing at this point.
@Budz just from putting them in more dirt? The amount of nutrients they were hit with (I believe 1/6 the recommended strength of the seedling booster and it was from a spray bottle) seems like such a small amount to trigger that. What do you recommend if that is in fact the case?
@Docnraq those look amazing! Im hoping to do bruce banner in my next round!
One the few people who I’ve seen successful in MG just said above he uses nothing but water up till past this point. And lots of it. Whether he’s aware of it or not a lot of nutrients are getting pushed down with the frequency of watering he does. It’s a lot more than I do in happy frog, that’s for sure. And when I transplant from a solo cup to a fresh pot of happy frog. That means I’m not adding full nutrients for almost a month. Because they are already in that fresh much much milder soil. Where he gives one gallon of water every two days I give half gallon every 4-5. I just gave this plant a half gallon and it was 3 days ago it got 1 gallon with tribus and silica only. Only been fed 4 times (nutrients added to water) since cloned.
Less is more. Everyone has to find their own way. A way in mg is not easy. @Dr.ofSmokology puts a lot of time, love and care into his plants. I’d bet he could grow in sand.
I also forgot to mention, its been either tap or bottled water
there are a couple reasons why i use soo much water. 1 my room ran really hot so i had to keep up with the heat. 2 the main reason is to hopefully wash away the excess nutrients in hopes of avoiding nute burn. even still with running so much water i still get the dark green plants but luckily i have had zero deficiency issues at all. my theory is autos run an average of 90 days. Miracle grow feeds for upto 90 days. but the MG is high in nitrogen and others. so if i wash a bit of excess out each time there is still enough to carry me thru flowering and all i do is add a little bit of bloom stuff to pick it up. i dont add anything else. no silica no calmag no nothing.
@Budz
i use tap as well. i just let it sit in open containers for 24 hours minimum. which is also why i dont add anything as any extra minerals that are in the water once the chlorine or chloramine(spelling) evaporates the rest can only make up the differences.
I’ve started adding silica to my last soil grows because ive had to tie up colas. Need it in hydro/coco environments so I already had it on hand. Switching to coco perm. Soil has silica in it. But a little more to prevent this for the girl above. Some of them found laying straight sideways before being strung.
Edit: Since girl above is first gen clone.
Just noticed I got another to tie up tomorrow. Lights off now. That was end of day snap for records.
i had one night when i should have watered but got lazy and high and thought they could handle an extra day to dry but i was wrong. came home from work to water and half the branches were on the floor. was as if you could see there heart beat as they were dropping . so i tied up the best i could and gave their water and within hours they were back standing.
@Budz @Dr.ofSmokology good points, im thinking I might need some dilution in my soil. Ill figure that out for sure once I test the ph.
This will be my one and only in the mg. Well, one and only grow that was focused on. I do have some going outside (bag seeds) that I havent put any care into besides maximizing sunlight, watering with the hose, and I transferred when needed.
It’s pretty apparent excess water is key to mg. Outside plants are almost guaranteed to get more of every factor in growing from light to wind, humidity control that allows them to process heavier amounts of nutrients. I tried mg outside years ago with success untill about the 6 node and I fed with Shultz tomato at 150%. Needless to say they where dead in two days. That would’ve been summer 2007.
Weve had probably the wettest summer this year out of the past 15 or so, so its starting to add up on why they are doing well outdoors. As I mentioned before, no more mg. Im not against a challenge, but I dont want to tie my legs together before the race again either. Im going to go with happy frog and once I get nutes down, then venture into ocean forest and start adding my own amounts of other additives. Maybe hydro after that. I plan on investing in this for the long haul, so any experience is a benefit. Im picking up from the folks on here that I took a big first bite, but im looking forward to it!
Just a tip. OF isn’t as consistent/stable as HF.
Im glad to hear that, thanks. I have heard its a hot soil for seedlings, but never heard that part.
I’ve read it places I can’t link and @dbrn32 did his own tests on ocean forest. All run conclusive.
thats funny. ive tried growing in pro mix with mycorrhizae and i now have a batch outside in happy frog of. now the pro mix was a complete failure and the HFOF doesn’t look too promising either. when i tried hydro in a DWC that was a flop. so for me the MG is the go to thing. gotta find what works for you.
What was your issue with promix? Most is pretty much inert, so it’s pretty easy to manage as long you know what to expect.
I don’t see myself straying from coco indoors, but when I buy soil for outdoor stuff has been roots organic. Been pretty happy with it.
