Plants looking good growmie :call_me_hand:

Thanks!

Yesterday’s watering amounts to just two gallons, one with Jack’s and one with ReCharge; I meant to do a third but it was a busy day and time didn’t allow for it. It’s now official- we’re in flower!

I’m happy to have stunted lil’ Fujitsubo next to the big girls for comparison- look at how light and bright they are against her darkness! A sure sign of their explosive growth.

The two big girls are similar, but as always with these beautiful plants there are clear differences. Ukifune is stiff, straight and dense- this morning she looked like this:

I’ve had to trim her every few days, and again today, to tame that thick canopy for light and airflow optimization. Meanwhile slender, spidery Murasaki calls for much less attention:

And finally there’s Fujitsubo, who’s taken on a most curious profile:

Here’s another loupe shot of her wondrous crystals:

I’m not sure what if anything I’ll change now that we’re entering the back end of the grow. I’m fond of scrogging but for this setup I think it would be awkward. Lighting? So far I’ve kept the Diablo running 18 hours a day and the UV bar 12; reducing the light window obviously isn’t essential for autoflowers, but would it be wise to do so anyway? I’m also considering underlighting with a smaller LED board, which might be overkill or might just kick things up yet another notch.

Yesterday I fed them about 2.5 gallons (Jacks and fish stuff) before getting some runoff. Tbh I’m a bit surprised they can’t handle more than that; I hope the roots are properly robust to support what’s visible above-ground.

I rearranged the tent a bit just to keep things even:

Also reduced the lighting from 18 to 16 hours a day (for the LED component, the Diablo; the UV bar remains at 12h/day).

Check out the gams on Murasaki!

This is shaping up to be my finest grow; some of this I can attribute to more care and skill on my part, but let’s be real, the Diablo deserves the bulk of the credit. It’s an expensive machine so I’m pleased to see it will in fact pay for itself in the long run.

Things are starting to get pretty cold around here! It doesn’t seem to have upset the plants yet (the lowest temp I’ve seen in the tent is around 50F), but it’s another thing to look out for.

Exciting news- I’ve set up a 2’x2’ tent and started germinating another seed to be housed there. I ordered from North Atlantic Seed Co. and the package came in yesterday- first impressions of the company are positive, as shipping was quick and competent and they gave me more freebies than I know what to do with.

Her cultivar: “Purple Lemonade Auto.”
Her present: afloat in H20 and H202.
Her future: a nice damp paper towel, then a plastic cup with coco, and finally a grow bag with coco and perlite like her big aunts.

A simple tent update since it’s been a bit:

Plopped little Yugao the Purple Lemonade in a plastic coco cup. For now that cup is in the big tent; she’ll be moved after she sprouts.

Little Yugao has rocketed upwards! I moved her to a private little tent under my old Spider Farmer LED board; that SF has done good work for me in the past and should be more than up for the job. The above photos were taken yesterday; already Yugao has grown Yugely!

With Yugao moved and some extra space in the Big Tent, I decided to use another of my old LEDs, a cheap blurple, for under-lighting. The blurple is on a shared timer with the UV bar, so neither will run the full lighting period; I’m already in the habit of unplugging the UV before entering the tent, and now doing so will toggle the blurple as well, making visibility bearable. But here’s how it looks with everything on:

Hope everyone’s having a lovely Christmastime!

Let’s see how everyone’s doing!
UKIFUNE:

I think she would have benefitted from more aggressive training. But she’s always been very compact, and this is just how she wants to grow. All very solid, no real problems.
MURASAKI:

She’ll probably offer more flower than the other two combined. The plant of my dreams!
FUJITSUBO:

She’s still at it, bless her. I’ve a fondness for this one despite her diminutive stature; she bounced back from a rough start and is always charming with her odd proportions. This one will be harvested before the others, almost certainly; still a ways to go, though.
YUGAO:

Too early to say much about her; right now she’s rather limp which has me thinking I’ve been too assertive in keeping her little cup moist. Not likely to cause trouble, and for now I prefer that to a drying out.

I also got some new trich shots, of Fujitsubo and of Murasaki:

And finally here’s a generic tent update:

Yugao has been transferred, and everything’s coming up Millhouse!

The time was ripe to give Yugao a little training:

Who says autoflowers can’t handle a little abuse?

I’ve been weaning Fujitsubo off nutrients for the past week or so, giving her just a little from the main watering days and mostly just watering her on her own. Yesterday that tiny plant guzzled a full gallon of plain (filtered, pH-balanced) water without any runoff; those roots must be more robust than appearances let on!
Here are some fresh loup shots- I’m not seeing much brown in the trichs yet, but we should be getting there soon!

Murasaki is plumping up beautifully:

As does the Big Tent as a whole:

Meanwhile, I gave Yugao another trim and tied her down at a new angle:

So far in my years of growing, I have oft regretted under-training a plant, and I don’t think it’s ever happened that I regretted over-training. Let’s see how many bud sites we can fit!
