Watering wand or knee pads?

I have a grow room 8 X 8 that accommodates 12- 15 plants… I’m exasperated crawling around on my hands and knees when I water them. I want to either automate routine watering or utilize a garden variety watering wand with a water pump from a reservoir. My question: What type of water pump? submersible? hose in/out? I can’t do a continuous flow while watering. I just want to squeeze the handle and water the little darlings or release the handle and stop watering them, then move onto the next plant. Is there such a water pump that turns on and off automatically when I start and stop watering 12 - 15 plants in an 8 X 8 grow room?

I use a 10 gallon reservoir that I use to mix and aerate the water. I use a transfer pump with a 15 ft hose attached to a 30" watering wand with a ball valve to control the flow. The transfer pump has an integrated pressure cutoff switch set at 40 psi.

When I open the ball valve, the pump turns on and water flows. When I close the ball valve, the pump turns off and water flow stops.

I also use the transfer pump and wand to circulate the water when I am adding nutrients and adjusting pH.

My grow room is 8’ X 8’. I sit in my chair near the door and water all of the plants without getting out of the chair. :vulcan_salute: :man_mage:

Edit: The transfer pump is a diaphragm pump which is very low maintenance.





It is not pretty but it works very well.

That won’t reach 5 feet to the rear most plants while I am sitting in my chair. :joy:

They make things like this on amazon for cheap you could try. Looks like some even let you get 25ft away. Not sure how many gallons they can go on a single charge/set of batteries though.

Thanks for your pics & info. It’s quite the coincidence we both have an 8 X 8 room. May I ask,

  • How many plants per cycle do you squeeze in your 8 X 8?
  • Why a 10 gallon bucket and not 20 gal?

I use 2 submersible pumps @ 3/4 hp. One for RO tank to pump to nutrient res, one for nutrient delivery… (2) 55 gallon drums… I think they actually hold 65 gal each… on a high frequency feed system utilizing coco. This can handle up to 18 plants feeding 5 times a day. Drain to waste.

Submersible is cheaper than external at the risk of heating the reservoir, this is where HP comes into play. The higher you go the less time it runs.

My water station filters the RO and the Nutrient solution with pressure monitoring before and after the filter to watch for problems or pump malfunctions/decrease in performance while keeping my lines clean. It can also disperse into buckets or hose to drain for cleaning purposes…

Run off drains to a filtered condensate pump that transfers run off to a check cup, and the drain to keep tabs on average run off numbers…





Equipped with feed lines and manifolds this has taken almost all complications in regards to feed off the table.

10 gallons seemed to be a good place to start. It worked well so I have not changed.

The lights cover 6’ X 8’, 2200+ watts home built. I grow from four to six plants in that area using individual, mobile SCROG frames/bases. ~ 1lb per plant.

The two in the middle don’t have SCROG frames because there is not enough room. They get LST and stakes for support.

This was five weeks after flipping to flower light schedule.

I grow in Roots Organic Original soil.
