I’ve only tried this after my plants became infected. Has anyone ever tried using milk as a weekly preventive spray?
Anything with Afghan in it gets it and grey Mold bad on the gulf coast. My skunk#1 had serious issues with powdery mildew this year more so than any year I can remember
I used it a hundred years ago when I worked for a winery on the grape vines, but the only details I can remember is that you have to spray it in full sun this causes the milk to do something and that’s what helps to keep the mildew out oh and we used raw milk from the dairy down the road
I’ve been hearing that Apple cider vinegar and water is the best thing to fight wpm and it can be sprayed the same day you harvest without any taste or side affects. I can’t remember what the dilution is though
I live in the desert so normally (had a little rot this grow) molds and mildew are not one of our problems down here, so everything I know about it is second hand or I have to remember back to the mid 80s and the 80s are a little blurry if you know what I mean lol
Weird, I don’t remember the 90s oh well. I looked up the vinegar mixture and it seems most use one tablespoon per quart of water and a few say it’s also a great aphid killer.
Vinegar would alter the pH that I’m sure of. Any leaf issues in the high heat and humidity around here soon attract a host of other issues so does anybody got any real experience say using vinegar and water as a weekly preventative spray?
Does it smell like a skunk ? Same skunk from the 80’s 90’s ? Reason I ask is I have been on the hunt for old time skunk smoke. For this year I ordered super skunk thinking it would be what I was looking for… Not so much. Have been told it is skunk #1 that I’m after. Plan is to order seeds for next summer so was just wondering
That’s the mix that was in my head when I was typing but I don’t trust my old brain with exact numbers especially when I could kill someone’s plants I have to see it in my notes to quote it anymore. Check out em1 one of the moderators was having a problem with wpm and it was suggested to him I think it was @Myfriendis410 but if not he might know who I’m talking about
Edit = no I think it was @Covertgrower … lol see what I mean about this old brain
I have to give @kaptain3d the credit for this one. So far it’s more effective at controlling the wpm, but so far hasn’t eliminated it. If I apply in high enough concentrations it seems to work, it’s all trial and error when using a new product.
Bacillus Methylotrophicus is a living bacteria which eats powdery mildew. Can be used from seed to harvest. It has cured my plants 100% of their infection.
I now include it in my IPM schedule, spray the plants every 10 days, buds n all !
Sierra Natural Science - SNS244C Fungicide
Active Ingredient 1.45%
Thyme Oil 1.20%
Clove Oil 0.20%
Rosemary Oil 0.05%
Being oils, Even though its “Day of Harvest Safe” I wouldn’t recommend to close to harvest to not taint flavors, but natural oils should degrade in UV in short time.
I love Spinosad products but also if you have mites you can mix this with their 217C and IPM at one time, Pest control, also simple botanical oils.
@Hogbud do you have a product name on the Bacterial base products.
@Pet_de_Chien The product is called “Incite” unfortunately I am in South Africa and I doubt it is available in the US ( if that is where you are located )
But surely there should be a local product available near you that contains that same or similar living bacteria. Over here commercial farmers are using on various food crops.
I use milk on Vegetable garden plants zuc/Cucs/squash where I’m not using the leaves and it works great.
To add to the visual - I agree I don’t want Milk Fat Dandruff sloughing off in my weed.
I wonder if making your own LABS (lactic acid bacteria serum) would work on wpm because you would be collecting the local bacteria and growing it to use I would think it would work best because the local bacteria. I’ve been reading about making my own for my living soil but I did see it being used as foliage spray
I’m just throwing this out there I’m probably the furthest thing from a scientist that there is
i.e. Interesting - SourDough Starter or (Amish Bread), I make it all the time for Pizza Doughs, starts with some rice and a potato boiled down until its just mush, let ferment on the counter with a cheesecloth, Then I usually collect the Whey and start a sourdough. I dont have and WPM to deal with, but I’d be willing to try it if it pops up.
I didn’t see any recipes with potato but it’s the starch that does the trick I guess any starch works but I don’t know crap about this stuff. The two recipes I copied were just rice water and milk then you need to feed them something sweet to keep them alive once you get done
