I see folks who swear by flushing. I see folks who swear that there’s a “chemically” taste. Then I see these.
So for the experts here… What do you prefer?

I personally cannot tell a difference… I’ve done both also played with the 24hr darkness. Either my taste buds are spent or there isn’t a difference.
I don’t do a traditional flush. I just stop giving nutes and give staight ph’d water the last 5 to 10 day’s. Unless I misjudge harvest time then longer.
I have read those articles. Its a polarizing topic sometimes.
I don’t give any nutrients last week because its a waste of product. If you grow in soil or even Coco like I do there will be leftover nutrients bonded to fibers of soil that the plant will find. Like crumbs in the toaster you cant get rid of all of it. The only true water flush would be in Hydroponics. So why waste extra nutes at the end of a grow. I think the reason the blind tests show no discernable taste is that there is actually very little product in the water. The chart below give a visual of what 1200 ppm (parts per million) looks like. And just because you chop a plant it doesn’t stop cell activity right away. So what is in the plant already will be altered by plant cells over several hours.
I’ve only flushed to remove salt buildup when I was using the Fox Farm Trio. I don’t flush before harvest, but I do stop feeding the last week or 2 of the grow since the plant doesn’t need a whole lot to ripen flower in the late stages - saves a bit of time and a few doses of nutes.
One other thing on that. Do a side by side and see if you notice a difference. Then go by your taste buds.
Mmmmm toaster leavins (Kelly Bundy married with children)
That actually came to my mind as I wrote it…LOL
@DanInVa In Hydro I believe as @DRsDank does that not giving any nutrients those last few days forces the plant to use what has been stored and stresses her a bit, which makes for a better bud.
When I grew in soil I never flushed but since I switched to hydro I don’t add nutrients the last week of flower before harvest.
One thing I can say is my smoke is much cleaner and smoother with hydro than it was with soil…so there you have the rest of the story
@Retiredoldguy
I bought everything needed for a hydro setup but chickened out at the last minute and planted in soil.
Midwestguy’s technique is exactly what I follow.
i didnt flush
It all comes down to personal preference for flushing if ur using bottled nutrients i would say use sledgehammer flush to get rid of the salt build up in ur soil or just plain water if u are going to flush i would say flush for a week or two but if ur organic growing i wouldnt flush
Depends on the nutrients, I believe. With fox farms I could definitely tell a difference between a flushed plant and non flushed plant. And so could others that smoked it. Roots Organic nutrients or Jacks 321, there has been no difference.
@DanInVa soil is typically easier to learn how to grow in than hydro so you made a good choice. Try to remember that less is best and not overreact to every nonconformity when starting out and you will be happy with your grow.
