I have an air cooled 600w digital ballast light. I just switched bulbs from mh to hps for flowering. It was my understanding that the hps would run cooler than the mh but that’s not the case. I had to turn the fan up from 2 to 5 to keep my temp at about 77f… did I smoke too much or what?

I’ve never heard or experienced that. Maybe some slight differences depending on where and how you’re measuring. But nothing that will make environment drastically different from one to the other.
I was pretty surprised to see that. It’s basically my 1st indoor grow and also the 1st time I’ve used this light. It’s not really a big deal, just unexpected

The good news is should be fairly consistent outside of what is expected for changes in seasons.
